I'm pretty sure they both count as examples of arrogance . . . . . . .

Most definitely obnoxious.

Yes that definitely is being Elitist . . . . . .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've NEVER descended to name-calling.

ScipioAmericanus said:

Can't hear that. What? Say again? Zero?

So what, you arrogant, self opinionated pillock. There are several published (or about to be published) writers and games designers on here - but they aren't so ruddy insecure that they feel the need to go on and on and on about it. Grow up, you're not a School Prefect anymore.

My credibility remains intact, and based on the number of PM's I get from FRIENDS ON THIS FORUM maybe you'd better just re-think this post.

I sincerly doubt that, you have shown yourself to be petty, purile, and childish. You act like only your opinion counts, and are boorish when people have issue with it. You should go into Politics buddy - you would feel right at home with the other pratts in office.

Its a great shame you can't deal with it better either

I certainly think better of him now- I think he is making a lot of sense.

Gods above what is it about this place?

Let me try a definative arguement;
Whatever you want to say MGP made some cock ups, they've promised to set them right. I'm cagey about it because they have made promises before that didnt hold up.

Do you really need to say anything more?

You've about got it. Makes you think how Mongoose forces people to spend their money on stuff they hate. :)

OK, in an effort to get everyone to take two slow breaths and a sip of water  , I'll make an attempt to bring this discussion into proper perspective. The photo does appear to me to show a mis-cast where the metal was slightly on the cool side (the infamous crescent). The photographer should have used a better example, as I'm very confident that the vast majority of the bases would be acceptable. Lastly, I do not think that we need to spend many further calories debating the merits of a small metal base  . Time is what will show us whether Scipio's warnings were correct, as it is quite evident that Mongoose Publishing is committing a significant portion of its warchest to retooling the SST line. Although some are taking Scipio's comments "badly" it is tough to get the authentic feeling of the author through a text interface. If I didn't know Scipio's affection for the subject, I would be put off as well just reading the text, well- as text.. As this latest photo is likely one of the last metal items for SST, I do actually find it humorous (sorry Scipio) that we're arguing about a small metal base. I'm sure with your heartfelt opinion you'd say "That's the point, it should have been a no-brainer" (did I come close on my telepathic skills?). Once again, two breaths and a sip of water (or a pint of your choice!). It's a flying base, guys... (ducks as things from all sides get thrown my way) .

Ok seriously now, don't you guys think that even the most understanding bloke in the world is going to act a little riled up if a bunch of poeple he's never even heard of are jumping on a band wagon and slatting him?
Don't you think that someone who put in a lot of work to the system is going to get ever more pissed of at people getting nasty because he's expressed a divergant point of view?
The overwhelming opinion I (And plenty of others it now seems) see expressed on this forum is "If you don't like it piss off", which is complete arse.
If you can't handle dissent in any other manner than that it really is a sad day for the game as whole.

If someones clearly angry about something don't keep sniping at them underhandidly till they explode, then try and take the moral high ground, it's pathetic, and this is coming from me! (At least I have the decency to follow clearly defined rules as laid out in the Trolls Charter: sub-section B paragraph 4)

Amen, I couldn't have put it any clearer myself. Good job Max.

While one of the less vocal members on this forum, I'm still here and holding the faith with Mongoose. Be here since the beginning of SST. Hell, if they never even made another model, I'd still be here enjoying the game and gamers. That said, I like the move to plastic sets, I'm really looking forward to, a better brain bug, firefry, king tanker, and some other models which I thought were not so good, in the metal, or metal/plastic mix. A pure plastic pre-built model sound so good to me. While I enjoy painting, I dislike having to spend hours just to put a model together or putty up errors. If I dislike the paint job, the price of the new models will be no more than the old, so,... no worries.

As mentioned, this is JUST a game. Taking things so personal, seem to mean, the priorities in ones life needs a new focus.

Best to all, including Scorpio, I hope things work out for you.

Yes indeed TOS, while I may be happy to see my King Tanker displayed on the cover of S&P (for two months no less, heh), I'll be keeping it on the display shelf in my store instead of using it as a gaming unit. Every time I pick it up (which is seldom) the weight of the finished model seems to threaten the leg supports. Thus, casual gaming use is out. A fully-plastic King Tanker will work just dandy I'm quite sure of, as will a plastic Brain Bug, etc. Maybe MGP will tune up the Firefries and boost their size just a bit as well. I'm choosing to be optimistic, and in the long run this new plan should support the game better than in the past. Scipio's flock of gamers should benefit nicely from the new PPM units as they probably won't have a great deal of time for assembly and painting. All things considered, the world will just keep turning as next year looms around the corner...

EGADS! When did MAX BECOME THE VOICE OF REASON AROUND HERE?!

On the subject of the base-even if it is an ink wash, ink only settles in recesses-So even if it is washed, it's still got some serious flaws.

Cuda-Did you seriously count how many negative posts Scip had before you responded? No offense, but if so, WHAT DO YOU DO ALL DAY?

Its not an ink wash, its a paint wash - they don't use inks to black wash bare metal - it just runs away.

You obviously know nothing about how paint washes dry on a smooth surface buddy.

Easy man. As far as that topic goes-

I once had a massive Clan War army (several hundred miniatures) that was assembled, but not even primered, and needed painted in one night. Solution-INK WASH. While not the "Coolest" paint scheme I've ever done the effect was pretty cool (I didn't even need to use any thixotropic agents-the INK WASH worked great). Anyway, it's kind of a moot point. Let's
say it's a paint wash. Where is the wash going to settle? Oh yeah, IN THE RECESSES JUST LIKE THE INK WASH!
Thus my original point still stands. The base has flaws.

Here you go, here's some WITHOUT a paint washes (by the way you can see on the original picture, by the way its streaked and pooled its actually settled on the surface not in any recesses - look at the streaks and marks rain water leaves on glass, its pretty much the same deal).

Trust me buddy, I used to have to wash miniatures all the while for display in cabinets - its just the way its dried.

Have you ever put ink or a regular paint wash over a smooth metal surface? If not, try it.

First of all, you didn't take the picture did you? How do you know for certain no knife ever touched it.

That's like fighting with a history teacher about a wrong answer on a test by saying, "oh ya? How do you know, you weren't there!"

The obvious flaws in the casting seem to be ignored in favor of the "wash issue."

He's got a point there.

IF THE MODELS WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH, THEN WHY DID YOU RELEASE THEM??????

Got a point there too.

Indeed.

Instead of calling him an elitist asshole, maybe you should get the point of what he's saying. He's done a lot of work for SST; and has more riding on it than any of you fanboys.

Again, that is your choice (however wrong I feel it may be) - but to suddenly about face the way you did, there has to be a lot more depth to it than you are admitting, otherwise you just come over as very shallow.

...or as someone who's been here long enough to have heard the "we're working on quality control" statement twice before the EVO announcment. And did it get better? No, in fact it got worse.

Anyways, this crap is getting out of hand and needs to be locked. But that's never happen because none of the mods are ever on here.

Lorcan, yes, I have done that (read my initial post)-two coats and I was done. Worked fine.

The "un-worked" pic looks much better admittedly, but still looks a little rough imo.

I've ended up smearing some heavily watered-down black on a largely undetailed surface before (I think it was a kex base for an Aerotech mini now that i think upon it), and I got similar results to the original pictures.

Which doesn't account for what appears to be a large crack admittedly, but I was only addressing the one point.

Lorcan, don't get me wrong. I can certainly see your point as far as smearing goes. My point was that it really didn't matter if it was ink or paint- either way it looks like it was an ill-advised attempt to cover what appear to be casting flaws.

And yes MAC V, I miss Scipio! He had a pretty good perspective on some things that seems to lacking around here lately.
