High Guard characters - mustering out problems

Delerium

Mongoose
The example character seems to indicate benefits are rolled when a character leaves the the Navy career as a whole (by choice or otherwise) but its not clear to me.

What happens if a character leaves one branch (eg Flight) and takes up another (eg Support) . Do I get the rolls at that point?

If yes, do they get the bonus rolls for having high ranks each time they muster our or what?

I assume ranks are not transferrable between different types of Navy .e.g local, Imperial but again I am not sure.

To compound the problem, what about chars with ranks higher than 6,what bonus do they get on rolls?

This is correct.

In a word, no.

Between the various branches within the same navy, yes, but not between Imperial and planetary navies or between different planetary navies.

However, I've often allowed PCs to retain a rank two levels below their rank at the point they mustered out if they're being recruited by a merc unit. Using the US Army as an example, lieutenant colonels become captains, 2nd lieutenants become senior sergeants, etc.

YMMV.

It looks to me like the HG ranks are reminiscent of those used in MT (MegaTraveller) so I'm going with the MT standard of:

E1-E2 or O1-O2 = Rank 1
E3 or O3 = Rank 2
E4 or O4 = Rank 3
E5 or O5 = Rank 4
E6 or O6 = Rank 5
E7+ or O7+ = Rank 6

Or at least until Mongoose comes up with their own.
