Hardback v softback

Mongoose
I see that everything in the pipeline for Mongoose is to be produced with a hardback cover. Even small page run books such as Dark Passions (pp66) and the Runequest Games Master's Handbook (pp104).

Does Mongoose have the facility for printing Softback books for those of us who prefer a lighter and more bendable option?

Don't get me wrong, high page-count books (200 + pages) with a hardback cover are essential. It would be nice to have the option on smaller books. (Also handy for shipping overseas as you get more books for the same weight).

Will Mongoose be offering softback versions of some of their supplements in the future?

Cheers
Sam

That seems reasonable -- small-page books seem silly to make hardback, don't they? It's like half of the volume is in the cover!

I agree hardbacks just don't seem right it they aren't approaching 200 pages, could just be me remembering the 80's a little too fondly though :D

A hardback for a 66 page book seems kinda funny to me. Of course, I generally prefer soft covers regardless. Lighter, easier to carry a bunch around. Shoot, I'm dragging my SST collection around, and the RPG supplements add quite a bit of heft to my bag.

very happy with those softback books I have recently purchased from a variety of companies - eG the War Machine books, WFRP books and they are all of a very high quality of production / full colour. :)

Personally, I'm planning to buy the Traveller corebook (in hardback) - and everything else electronically to go on my laptop.

I must say, I ran a session from my laptop last night very successfully*. I think having an extra rulebook handy will be very useful though too, and of course some people like to buy setting books just to read. I do see how different formats are useful, although you can print out your pdf. files at a printing company and make softbacks as you desire. It costs a bit more, I guess, but it does mean that you can select the information you want to print in anyway you please though.

* A straight up conversion of a previous Star Wars group, over to the Traveller brand: they mentioned that the character generation was "wicked" and "awesome" - and they loved a mock up skirmish too. I will be running a full on session with the same group on Friday. My only concern is the spaceship design and combat sections, which I feel are poorly communicated in the playtest files at present.
