Galactic Guide

Mongoose
I was wondering if anybody knew whether the Galactic Guide is no longer being offered or just being updated. I had ordered one but received an email that the Galactic Guide was not available?

I ordered one too, at the start of the month (directly from mongoosepublishing.com), and got the email saying it was out of stock. Since then i've heard nothing. I sent an email back, and have been told it's been forwarded to Ed Russell... am hoping to hear something soon.

I don't mind a bit of a wait, so long as I know what's going on.

I don't mean to sound pushy or anything, but does anyone know what's going on about this?

I've just sent another email about it, so if i get an answer I'll post it here for anyone who's having the same issue :-)

Hi there,

It seems as if we are indeed out of stock at the moment - however, a new run will be done later this month.

I'd say no, as he said "new run" and not something like "updated run" or so. I don't have the actual book, but how much rules are in there anyway? Isn't the GG one of the books more concerned with the setting than with the rules? THerefore a first edition reprint would be quite ok!

On advice from this board, I picked up the GG, and it's mostly edition-neutral. There are a few things in the back with 1e rules, but the bulk of the book is simply descriptions of planets and systems. I'd say it's still a fine buy regardless of edition. There are a few pages of outdated material, but mostly it's a good resource.

That's good, as I'm still sticking with 1e stuff for now. It's the information itself, i'm interested in anyway, not necessary the game part...

Sorry for the double-post.

I just got a reply about this...

"The book you ordered is going to be printed in house in the next 2-3 weeks. This has been a long process because we have switched from getting our books printed in China to having our own means to make them." - Ed Russell

Hope this is helpful, deadboy (and anyone else who wondered) :-)

Looks like Mongoose are holding off on printing/reprinting anything until they get their in house print facility up and running.

Can't say I blame them. By the time they outsourced a print run now and waited to get it shipped back, they'd probably have their printers up and running.

Frankly, I'm ok with the decision to wait. It is personally annoying because I was timing the start of an IPX-centric game with the initial release date, but I think, in the long run, we'll be happy that they control their own means of production, so to speak. It's annoying to wait, but it's just a temporary situation when it comes down to it. So, all told, I hope they hurry up, but I have faith that it's all for the best.

I have been waiting 2 months for my books

Taht sounds about right ... IIRC printing in China delays books 1-3 months longer than a more local printer (due to shipping import/export delays, etc) :)

I'm guessing that the problems mentioned on this thread are also holding up production of books like this one too.
It's now approaching 4 months since I placed the order, and I've found a new one off eBay now anyway, so looks like i'll be cancelling once I get a reply to my email.
