I also agree with Balance. If they do not have a tactical role apart from killing other fighters, why use them anyway? And why bother to counter fighters with fighters if they can't really hurt you in most cases? I guess because they were included in the ship. Who would buy them if they weren't?
Buy a nova, get 4 starfuries for free!
That fighters don't carry firepower to be able to really hurt a ship, are massacred by AF weapons and e-mines, and that their 'mothers', the carriers, are in constant debate if these are a viable chioce for a fleet, and mostly argumented to be chosen for their command rate bonus all indicate that the role of fighters is to show the painting skills of their owner, and not even the equivalent of cannon-fodder.
This all has been mentioned by many in different threads in this forum. No need to repeat the discussion. Do we all agree that fighters should have a tactical role at all? And do we share visions for that role?
Same as the show? According to JMS, the two Hyperion cruisers at Severed dreams were killed by the starfuries and thunderbolts of the Churchill, Alexander and B5 station. Do present fighters give a player the same ability?
This is why I chose option 2. because something needs to be done.
