Excel Traveller Trade

Thanks.
They have a modified FASA Chameleon Commerce Raider. With two small vehicles packed for shipping, they have around 53 tons to play with. Generally pays the maintenance, sometimes meets the payroll.

There are instructions, buried back in here somewhere, that tell you how to get data from the Traveller Map and insert it as a new Sector.
But as shown above, not all is rosy.
I did an internet search and I found the 800 ton "Wild Irish Rose" on the Forum. Such a ship would stand up to some tough adventures! Is that the one?

I know there is something wrong with me when I can't let this go.
Inter alia amendments
Extended the size of Buy-Buy Hex-Sell-Sell Hex table again as some subsectors exceeded the current search range
Data Validity of H2 and L2 for the new, expanded range
Corrected copy paste errors in I column, fourth box (allegiance)
H6-16 and L6-17 reference ranges updated
S69-86 ranges updated
Atmosphere, Government codes, Law levels A+ are not translated correctly as they look for numbers not letters in the table (not an issue in Arkathan's original Spinward Marches as he translated them from hex to decimal)
Added HEX2DEX in H9, H11 and H12 + L9, L11 and L12 to convert A-F into decimal
Added back all the Travel Zones to Corridor that were missing (oops)

Added Sol Rim Sector data sheets
Left Sol Bases as KM and marked military base only in Data Sheet
I have not checked the Sol Rim data, I am not really familiar with it so obvious errors aren't obvious. Feel free to play with it.

Enjoy!
I'm exhausted.

This will really help my campaign. Amazing work!

Just peeking at it now. Nice work.

I did note that on the Planets tab, H10 and L10 needed the HextoDec treatment. So does hexes H8 and L8. H16 and L16 are complaining about something, so they likely need love, too.

EDIT: Changing T83 from O to - made it work correctly for the green zones. Which broke it for the rest of the sectors that were blank for green. Hmmm. Going in to change all the blanks in zones to -.

That seemed to correct it. Uploading the corrected sheet now. Give it a peek and see if I broke anything by fixing it.

I havent looked yet.
H8 and L8 are size and H10 and L10 are the Hydro? Does that go above 10/A? I didnt change that as the tables starting R87 and T87 stops at 10/A
Admittedly it shouldnt matter as the Hex2Dec only checks and does its thing if necessary. I cannot get corner drag/extend to work in LibreOffice Calc so a lots of these changes I have to make manually, cell by cell, so I may have missed/skipped some in the interests of my sanity.

I will have a look later today, Terry. Thank you for taking the time to mark my homework ;-)

I do see that your file is 200kb smaller than the one I uploaded though. That is curious.

My pleasure.

It affects anything with 10+. Hydro hits A, so it needed it.

I didn’t add or remove anything else (other than adding - to the zone code for green zones), so the size change is all Excel.

I hate to tell you this, but I can't find any other problems. In Libreoffice Calc anyway. It all seems to work as a layer over Arkathan's original, brilliant, system.

Im a bit tired and frazzled of adding Sectors for the sake of it and I don't see much benefit to it anyway unless people want specific things.
Im also not clever enough to initiate any new ideas. For "if I have seen a little further ..." etc.
I suppose I see two possible subprojects.
1. Some data sheet where everything is filled in (as a test/sample) so that I don't have to work through every new subsector and look for errors in how it is presented.
2. Collating all the instructions on how to use the Trade Goods tab. At the moment there is Arkathan's Instructions tab, and posts with information in places as changes were made, deHaps' and your work as well. Geir suggested a flowchart and I see the sense of that too.

What does the forum want? I have time and energy to work on things as long as I am giving a scheme to work to.

Please don't work on this if it makes you feel frazzled. Traveller is a great game and I'm sure no one wants you to make it into a chore. For me trade is such a fun addition to the regular game because it gives the feeling that the planets and systems are connected and their are other lives that surround the Travellers. Sophonts need certain goods and services from other sophonts to survive and, if those needs are met, they can have luxuries that make that survival easier.

Thanks, Colin
I've lived with Traveller since about 1982, its a bit of a passion project for me. Frankly I like pushing myself and seeing what I can do. And I learn more computer and data systems. I just wanted to explain why someone who'd been posting every day for several days was suddenly going to back off for a bit.

Spreadsheet Project
I have extracted all the notes I can see in the spreadsheet and from the Forum. I have also extracted and started to summarise the trade rules into simple bullets / steps. Lots of If/And/Or/But of course.

Other Projects
I suppose there are two other possible projects that have been raised in the thread so far.
3. A new layer that either permits manual entry of systems / allows selection of systems from different sector sheets. Its an 'edge' case literally where you might want to trade between sectors, but is it feasible? (suggested by AkosPrime)

4. JL Brown suggested being able to trace out trade routes and volume / value / types of goods. Personally I look at the GURPS trading map in TravellerMaps and then have used this tool for the steps in between. It maybe a Hop or Skip too far from the intent and function of this spreadsheet, but don't let that stop anyone trying.

While it wouldn't deal with the routing, a manual entry of the UWP's for buy, sell and distance would cover the multi-sector and hop trading.

Not sure you can do the routing without either a LOT of computing power - Think my capital ship SSD page that takes a while to load due to thousands of linear calculations - or scripts that would preclude inter-sheet compatibility.
