Elizabeth Moon's 'Serrano' books using Mongoose Traveller???

OK,

I know someone will tell me I should probably be reading honor Harrington instead of Serrano, but the question stll stands, do we think Mongoose Travelller would be a good system to use for RPGing in the Familias Regnant universe????

Yes, it would be good. Oh - and IMO Elizabeth Moon's books are much better than HH series...

That's the impression I got when I looked at the books on the shelf, and what with Moon's new Serrano omnibuses coming out.

I think they are both very good series and traveller would work great on them. On which is better /shrug. The Serrano books are mainly on a personal level while the Honor Harrington series stopped being on the personal level after the 2nd book. David Weber has really started writing about the politics of the universe. Shadows of Sagnami(?) and Crown of slaves were not HH books, but were in the universe and i' loved both of them. my 2 credits

f you feel like picking the up in the shops, Books 1-3 are Omnibus 1, and books 4-5 are Omnibus 2. The thr 2 books re beig put out as an Omnibus next year

I'd Check the prices on the collection. It was at one time more than the 3 Paksenarrion books separate, but then reprints are probably higher. The Serano books were good, the Paksenarrion books were shining beacons of light on a tall spire. :wink: I've read them 8 or 9 times.

Well the individual books cost £7 in the UK, the Omnibuses cost £11, so even the ones that only collect 2 novels save you a few quid, and the first Omnibus saves you £10.

The books sound interesting. I'll check my local used bookstore.

As for the background and plots... military intrigue... nobility... a chartered yacht... working passage... smugglers... a regimented fleet... Space Opera generally seems to fit Traveller.

Which Elizabeth Moon Series are you talking about? Vatta or familias?
Because I have 2 of the Vatta and 6 of the Familias Ebooks I would be willing to post. I found them on the ebook newsgroups over the last 6 years.

I do not believe the two series are set in the same universe.

Either would be worth doing and would be relatively easy to do yourself. Some of the themes are very interesting and worth exploring – the effects of reliable and repeatable rejuvenation treatment for example.

Differences from Traveller
FTL communication via the ansibles.

Vata books
Jump point travel.
Common biomods. Seemingly both genetic engineering and vat-grown grafts.

Families Books
Oh, you can do this better than I can.

I think Traveller is a great fit for these books. A few tech tweaks are needed, but you could use the existing Trav chargen to produce characters right out of the stories. Most of the rest of Traveller will work just as well.
