DNR Abstract Transit

Banded Mongoose
2 sessions into running DNR and had a question regarding abstract transit. For 'Abstracting a Reach' the book says a Reach of 1–2 months (20 parsecs) is the max single segment of Voyage that can be abstracted at once.

But then what? Let's say they abstract a 20 parsec Reach....then at the end of that Reach are they forced to play at individual Traveller CRB mechanics scale? If so, for how long until they can abstract another Reach?

This seems like more of a recommendation so that the whole voyage isn't just abstract transit, but there's no indication of what should happen after this max abstraction limit is hit that would make any playable difference....wouldn't the Travellers just say "Ok we're at the end of that first Reach, soooo let's just start a NEW Reach that can be abstracted"? Am I missing something? Thx

I always interpreted it as the GMs call to use an Abstract Transit not a player request. If we've been in a section of space for a while, or I sense the players are getting ancy about making progress towards the goal then we'll do an Abstract Transit to get to the next interesting area of space. Its a tool for the GM to move the story along, not a tool for the players to avoid it.

Totally agree. I just didn't understand the language of the rulebook, but no problem in just doing what works for the game/party.
