Deus Vult books

Hi there!
I'm a recent convert to Runequest II, having joined a group playing Deus Vult a few months ago. I'm thinking of having a go at GMing it.
Anyway, it would be great if you published a source book on the Templars!
Or maybe a regional supplement of the Holy Lands (that could include extra material on the Templars).

Its a great setting, but really does need some more material.

You're doing a terrific job, keep it up!

I too hope there will be more DV stuff at some point, but useful things that might work well with Deus Vult in the absence of official material are "Stupor Mundi", "Crusaders of the Amber Coast" and "Merrie England" from Alephtar Games and/or Cubicle 7. They use either the BRP system or RQI which are easy to convert to RQII. The first is set in Italy, the second in the Baltic area, and the third, obviously in England. They're all a little after DV in terms of date, but contain useful source material onto which the DV background could be grafted. CotAC is available from Cubicle 7, and ME will be in June (there's an earlier version for RQI, but I think it's no longer available). I've been thinking of running some DV is England at some point, and ME is definitely a good sourcebook for that. Stupor Mundi might be a bit too specific in time to fit an already ongoing DV campaign though, and I haven't got CotAC yet, so I couldn't say either way.

Thanks guys!
I appreciate the suggestions ans will have a look.

My first priority remains Deus Vult material in the Holy Lands. There's lots of scope there - the missing priories, what the Templars have been up to (including occult activities), Holy Land cults, local or regional gift/miracles

But thinking about it a bit longer, another prime site for more material would by Africa! What do you think?

That's worth knowing too, thanks Mikko!
I've not looked at that stuff at all. Is there anything there that would take a lot of converting?

Does anyone know if Mongoose do intent to publish any more DV?
And if yes, broadly what topics and on what sort of timescale?

Thanks for the help folks!
- You make a newbie here feel welcome.

I would skip the rules entirely as Ars Magica and RQ2 are pretty far removed from each other both mechanically and thematically. Instead if you are looking for just background information and story seeds then City & Guild, Art & Academe, Lords of Men, Kabbalah: Mythic Judaism and the Tribunal books might interest you. Have a look at them at your local gaming store.

That's saved a lot of soul ache, thanks. Good stuff for background; will take a while though, but that's ok.

But I'm still aching for Mongoose to publish some more on the lost priories and the Holy Lands.

Anyone know if that's planned?
Or anything similar?

Thanks..

I'd also like a creature book. Deus Vult is not a seting with orks, trolls and other generic fantasy fare. Creatures drawn from medieval folklore - from the Middle East and Northern Africa as much as from Europe - would be cool.

There's nothing worse than introducing a group of experienced players to a fearsome beastie and having them immediately recognise it (and thereby determine its strengths, weaknesses and so forth).

I personally would like to see some more equipment. I love the look of the gauntlet and chainsaw blade, and get the image of some steampunkish like presit with steam jutting around him and lightning...alas I would like more stuff like that. There are only around 7 or so weapons (excluding the funky equipment and alchemical potions).

Or maybe an adventure book involving a jewish golem! (though the temptation to use it for yourself may be too great to resist (writes smash that heathen in hebrew and feeds it to his Jewish Golen)

Hey Aneirin! Hey Alpha!
Both some good ideas - but how about this:

Monggose could publish a Deus Vult regional Book, for example, the Holy Lands, or maybe Africa. It could include development of material already mentioned but not yet detailed, e.g. the lost priories, Templar activity away from Europe including use of occult resources, local cults, maybe local heroic abilities and magic, and, and you suggested: local (regional?) equipment and monsters

:)

If we're going with local regions, let's go with Ireland...or Russia! (such as it was back then...the the urge to have Zombie Lenin travel back in time to bring communism in before capitlalism take it's toll may be a bit too much too resist)

Could always have it a book go into a bit more detail for each country of interest (Africa does sound interesting...but the accents aren't as interesting to do). (may be asking a bit much to expect them to do something like Dark Heresy which is releasing an extension for each class for background, additional options and feats)

Yes, that might be a bit much to ask for. Just as well I didn't ask for it, huh?

But joking and flippancy aside, I think an extension of existing material, e.g. lost priories would mesh well. And regional supplement seemed a good way to do it.

I would like a suppliment book maybe exploring Celtic mythology, this would be a rich area to draw from not only Irish/Welsh and Scottish lore, but it would have some overlap with English and French folklore two. Brittainy in particular having close ties to Celtic mythology, there are areas of Brittainy that Robin Hood for instance is supposed to have fled to to escape the English tyrant...

Mongoose what say you?

Merrie England version 2 (by Soltakss) will be available in a couple of months, not in June as anticipated but certainly within the date of GenCon. It will have information on the Holy Land (including a map of the Crusader Kingdoms), lotsa monsters and devils, and also... the Golem!

This edition will be for Chaosium's version of D100, like Pete Nash's "Rome". But most informations are compatible.

I like the idea of expanding into Celtic mythology - that's a very rich area. The Brittainy overlap would be a good point of introduction.
It will be interesting to see if Mongoose pick up the Deus Vult expansion topics or if the gap gets left to be filled by other companies. Obviously I'd prefer DV material directly - no conversions = less work (hurray!).
The ME version 2 sounds worth a look though for the Holy Lands content (although, being honest, I don't think I'd use a Golem).

As Matthew indicated (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=666573#666573) there is a possibility of more DV material soon, decision being made this summer.
I've got my fingers crossed that it's a "yes" in June..

Judging by the "big announcement", it might be that no more Deus Vult material gets released until some time in 2012..
In which case the ME book on Holy Lands comes up for more serious consideration, i.e. buying. Anyone know the price?

Hopefully, given the fact Wayfarer is essentially RuneQuest 2 by any other name, there won't be delays imposed on an DV books in the pipeline. Certainly, that's my willfully up-beat reading of the situation. I guess Matthew is the only one who can really clarify things...(hint, hint) :D

Ok Alpha, maybe you're right.

But I thought Matt said there would be Deus Vult published (inquisitors, their methods/kit, maybe witches/cults from memory) but not until 2012. It's attractive material. Plus Templars (that's my hope not anything Matt said). But 2012 is a very long wait for me at least.

If there's Deus Vult material published this year then I shall be buying it, assuming quality isn't about to nosedive.

Matt: Care to comment on whether it's likely any Deus Vult material is looking like hitting the "sales shelf" this year?
