Designing a new G'Quonth

We all know that this ship is a liable to see use as a Kutai. (see I remembered the centauri!)
I have been working on a re-design, This ship IS an attack ship is it not, designed to hunt down and wipe out enemy ships. It's currently got no redeeming features over and above the Bin'Tak, or G'Vrahn, so it needs to be something different, a new type of cheese in fact. I am working on a slight re-imaging of this ship. I don't want to completely re-write it, so I am retaining all the basic stuff, ie crew, damage speed but changing the weapon loadout to make something different.
This is Draft one. I'm thinking it's a bit weak, as I stripped out the Light pulse cannons. I might add in some heavy pulse cannons instead. But note the Twin Linked main beam , the pulsar mines, and the increase in Ion torps for crit fishin. . . I don't want to create an uber ship, this should not be as good as the BinTak, but it SHOULD be a viable alternative. It stil suffers from haveing a G'Quans damage track..

Their is the option of Torps in every arc, a true torpedo cruiser :-)
 
quite like that, mind you I would of just upped the dam and crew a little bit though, like the banks of Ion torps :)
 
I wanyted it to be something different. to be honest, I'm still pondering stripping the arrays for more torps :-)
The Narn WAR version of that pesky saggi (only with no torp varients)
 
I would keep te arrays after all they are part and parcle of the G'Quan and its variants. Twin link beam eh...nasty!! thats a lot of hits and also gives that nice advantage of not having to CAF!! :)
 
it was somethign a few people have been discussing on here regarding the g'quan and Omega, so why not add it. It does make it a very nasty beam, assuming you can line it up.

Intersting, however since Ion torpedoes are not Slow Loading or Beam, why have 2x 4AD racks for the front arc? A single 8 AD rack will provide the same firepower and be slightly more resiliant to the -1 AD Crit.

however a single rack would suffer differently under the "Each weapon only fires on a 4+ crit, also only one weapon per arc may fire situation would lend itself in the 8AD weapon's strength.

Exactly, LBH has it spot on. In a way it's a way of building in a redundancy, it has better protection against one of the worst of the crits, although is more suceptible to a less painful one :-)

only not so fragile, The G'Quan hull isn't that far off several warships in it's damage taking abilities as it is.
 
How about turreting one of the torpedo batteries? Could serve as a bridge toward the Crusade era where the new ships have their torps in a turret.
 
This a G'Quan varient, so I don't see any need to change the model (I have 6 G'Quan models available) If people agree overall to the idea, i might even submit it to matt as a possible change to the G'Quonth for version 2.

But If Matt acept you plan, you will need a new name for this variant. Do you have any Idea for the name?
 
to be honest, it should be the G'Quonth, no one uses it as it stands, but they might use a torpedo version, so could keep the name, I suppose it's possible to add a few Torpedo racks to the hull for distinction.
