Several years ago in was somewhat into a miniature game called Mech Warrior. For those who may not have heard if it, Mech Warrior was a table top miniature war game that mimiced big mechanical robots fighting each other along with rocket fireing tanks etc..

Our little group participated in a weely organized tourney schedule of playing where the mini manifacturer put up prizes and such for the winner of the tourney.

It dawned upon me that I should do something for the loser....SOOOOO:

Every weekend I would put up out of my personal funds a prize for the WORSE PLAYER rather than the best player--as an incentive program as it were.

LOL, well pretty soon it got to the point where the players who saw that they did not stand a chance at winning the tourney as the best player would deliberatey play extremely bad so they could at least my worst player prize. The FUNNY PART is that it was so hilarious to see people deliberately play sooooooo BAD just to win something.

SOOOOO here is a suggestion to yall good folk out there who play table top mini games of any kind in a tourneyment format. Put up out of your own funds some kind of "Dead Last But Finished" aka D L B F prize and watch how people will deliberately fight to be the worst player on the face of the earth just to get your prize. Try not to LOL....

Early Mongoose tourneys had a different game (GoMC, Thud IIRC) as a last place prize, which went along with the joke "Maybe you should play something different."

But I don't know that anyone ever playing badly to win it.

On occassion the last placed person at ACTA tournments received a certifcate stating they had been reduced to the status of a Narn........Great maker pity them

I recieved a really lovely set of gold (well heavy gold coloured metal) dice for coming last at aldershot - really pleased with them :)

In re to...

"But I don't know that anyone ever playing badly to win it."

The tourney playing was dominated by 3 players that were to be quite honest so good that that one of the three won every tournement taking the grand prize and in most tourneyments the second and 3rd place prizes as well. The topic of each weekend at the tourney play was which one of the three hated players was going to win this week.

So not winning became an accepted state of game play for many/quite a few in reality of the game players.

Offer the Naff prizes to the Winners and give the good prizes to the lower 3 players. That will make the lower echelon of players feel better :).

I won a nice copy of Firestorm Armada as a last place prize at Aldershot.
