Cyclops Trans-Littoral Combat Walker Now Available

Mongoose
Combat Walkers are the precursors to modern battledress, and for a while, exist alongside the smaller suits as heavy fire support. This micro-supplement for Traveller, written by the author of 2320AD, examines a special-purpose combat walker called the Cyclops. The Cyclops is designed for littoral (shallow-water) environments, and serves as heavy fire support for troops along the shore.

This book includes stat and details on the Cyclops, along with two variants, the Cyclops Mk2, and the Polyphemus. Additional information is provided on new vehicular weapons, new skills, and a new robot, the Attack Remote-Operated Vehicle.

Three adventure seeds complete the book, each with detailed world map and adventure notes.

This book requires the use of Mongoose Publishing’s core Traveller Rulebook.

Now available for sale from DriveThruRPG and RPGNow.com! :!:

Working on my water world setting, I could of course not resist this one.

I was a bit sceptical, mainly because I do not really need a combat walker
for my campaign, but this "micro-supplement" was a pleasant surprise.
With 17 pages and lots of very good illustrations it is not "micro" at all, it
contains many very good ideas that I can use for my setting, including the
three walkers (in less military versions) themselves.

Very nice, and highly recommended. :D

Thanks. It was a fun little book to do. There will be more books to come, too.

I believe strongly in the value of relevant illustrations. So, in this book, we have the cover illo, a comparison shot of the three walkers. Inside, there are separate illos of the three walkers, a technical 3-view of the Cyclops, an illo of the attack ROV, 2 scenic shots of walkers in action, 3 walker weapons, 3 world maps, one area map, a map of a merc base, and an image of a sub-eating monster. On the back cover is another shot of a walker in action, this time against a smaller crittter.

So, I may have gone a little overboard. But I like to produce supplements that I would want to buy.

Not at all, at least not in my view. :D

I love good illustrations, they make it a lot easier to explain to the players
what a piece of equipment looks like and what they can do with it, and dif-
ferent pictures from different angles of a more complex equipment like a
walker help much to visualize it in the game.

I am all for you doing more advanced tech products, that incorporates GUNDAMS, which are essentailly big automated cybernetically linked combat suites, say TL 18, or going real high tech and going all "Transformers", and having high order AI Multi Purpose Combat (A.I.M.P.C.R.'s) Robots that pretty much fight on their own. Probably TL 21 for the earliest models.

I did some writing for Jovian Chronicles, which is basically just Gundam with the serial numbers filed off, so I know all about them. Starblade Battalion Mekton (for Mekton, natch) was one of my favorite universe designs.

I don't know that I'll do super mecha. I'm more of a down and personal type.

Mecha are big business, so filing the serial numbers off is not recommended ... Battletech couldn't even get away with it with Macross, which (although perfectly formed) is a much smaller franchise than Gundam. I think Jovian Chronicles was "sufficiently differentiated" - I assume it wasn't licensed, as it doesn't directly use any Gundam designs that I'm aware of?

Anyway, back On Topic! Very nice work, Colin, I hope we get to see more of this 2300AD sort of thing now that you're not spending time on the other stuff!

I don't particularly like Gundam designs, I just like the concept, and I think taking the fundamental look of Traveller Battle Dress amped up with a little bit of coolness will do the job for "look", the important part is what they can do. Same deal for the more advanced TL 21+ versions.

So I in no way want a "rip off" in terms of looks, just a reasonable fascimilie of progression of technology that still fits with the Traveller progression.

Like the look of this and liked your work on 2320AD and Lightspeed. Plan on getting this soon. I like water worlds & walkers too.

As for Gundams, there's always the fighter+, ball and some of the more shiplike designs if you don't want actual Gundams, Zakus or the like. Mind a Zaku or Gofu could make a nice design if scaled down to a smaller size. Traveller already has boarding axes ala Lensmen or Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

Colin,

Which rules set did you use for the walker? did you go for the mongoose vehicles books or did you just best guess it or have another reference point?

Mongoose vehicle books are currently off-limits. This was based off a design created with Traveller D20 design system (the products of which are Open Content) extrapolated into Mongoose Traveller.

Well, I just bought this thing today, pretty darn slick, real nice artwork, and I am looking forward to more! Rust should really like that under water art!

I'm glad you liked it. Next one is a book of planets, I think, ready for a GM to use when they need a planet in a hurry.

Excellent news! IIRC you did a book of planets for Lightspeed that had quite a range, good stuff there.
