Cool books

The new S&P has some cool "tomes" in it (if you haven't downloaded it for free yet, you might want to consider it for that article alone).

It got my wheels turning, and I was just wondering if anyone else had already written up any ideas.

I thought it was a good alternative to finding a "Grimoire" in some ancient scholars library.

Anybody?

Really? I suppose I can see that.

I just like things that give a game a different color and texture, especially what I like to call "grey" items. The cursed sword that has some positive side effect, the Armor that weighs less and has more AP- but doesn't defend against a certain type of attack...and the book that offers some advantage but makes the PC so depressed he borders on suicidal. Things that challenge even the most Munchkin-esque Meta gamer to ask: "Is it worth it?"

But that's me.

I just like the potential of these tomes to be "grey." I think they make great objects for quests (ie. The God Learner Sorcerer wants the book that increases the ease with which to enter Myths, a tome held sacred by some backwater, primitive spiritualists in the mountains. They also happen to be clever and formidable, with powerful shamans and advanced knowledge of the land around them, in addition to pacts of truce with the nearby Trolls that allow them to call upon the Trolls as allies...).

I think there are some good potential uses for such books.
