Consistancy in 2e?

i dont know but i would think the 2nd tier was more to look for obvious problems that crop up. like the sagi that was spotted almost straight away on release. and to check for editing errors etc. not run a full playtest as hopefully thats what we have got right with balance etc and maybe only missed one or 2 due to seeing constant updates.

A little while before release, we are going to have a second group created, drawn again from people on this forum (probably the mosy vocal, cynical and pessimistic ones ). This will act as the Test Group for 2e, using the final laid out files for the game, and will have the opportunity to poke holes and break balance.

to quote what matt said in that post burger linked so wouldnt say a full out playtest, more an attempt to break things.

well i put some people forward for 2nd tier - davesaints group as suggested and also 3 people who i think will stick to their guns and seem very dedicated, hiff, plus my favourite tag team duo burger and reaverman :D

It looks like that he used even less Playtesters then before.

No. No, he didn't.

For the tourney list pdf, Drakh and Armageddon there were 5 of us - me, Pauly D, Lowly Uhlan, Wulf, Emperor Penguin.

To those he added Shadowscout, Triggy, Katadder, Tank and Richard Bax.

Triggy, Katadder, Tank and I have all won tourneys. I have written for S&P. Shadowscout and Richard Bax were involved with B5 Wars. Richard wrote the web-published ACTA Dilgar war supplement.

We have been working on it for more than 12 months now.

Whatever else you think of 2e, it has been playtested with a capial P.

Yep, the spread of player types is about as wide as you can get and the numbers are larger than last time. Also, people should see our inboxes if they don't believe how much playtesting and debate there has been!

Ok More playtester.
So we have to hope that Proof reading Phase is also done properly.
Not that we end with an erata Book for the new rules

Have to agree with the above...any second tier at this point is not so much a balance group as it is a glaring flaw/edit for vague wording group. The chicago team could test ships that look suspicious...but a comprehensive TEST is beyond the timeline.

That said, fresh eyes are often enough to catch some real oops and a group of chicago's size would have a good spread of player types.

If nothing else we could see some good work on looking for vague wording, or easily misunderstood stuff.

And Lowly Uhlan was an otiginal 1E CTA playtester that won under-publicised tourneys that weren't in the UK. :)
