Supplement Four
Mongoose
This maneuver is worded strangely. It doesn't add up. The description says that you parry in such a way that you can follow up with a devestating attack. But, in reality, if you are successful, what it does is low your foe's Parry AC by -2 against your next attack. I don't think I'd call that devestating.
Here's how I understand it works.
Vanir has nish and attack Conan.
Conan has a shield, and successfully parries. Conan decides to employ the Shield Bash maneuver. The successful Parry triggers the maneuver's use.
Conan makes an opposed STR roll with the Vanir.
If Conan loses the STR toss, the Vanir is considered to have made a successful Sunder on Conan's shield. The Vanir gets to roll damage on the shield.
If Conan wins the STR toss, the Vanir is -2 to Parry AC until his next action.
Interesting maneuver, but hardly what I would call a "devestating attack".
But, this maneuver is good to remember because most characters will use the Parry instead of the Dodge in order to take advantage of the Riposte. This maneuver, when successful, lowers your foes Parry AC.
