Conan RPG - GM Only Bestiary Reference List

*************Spoiler Alert - GM Only information!******************

I put together this list in order to help facilitate organizing my Conan adventures and to see a list of all the variety of beasts and animals that have been stated out for the Conan RPG. This helps me find where aparticular monster or animal has been stated out and in what book. Currently the list is incomplete because I am missing the following books/products:

1) Tower of the Elephant
2) Faith & Fervor
3) Argos & Zingara
4) Shem

I have all the other books and the creature breakdown for the rest of the line is:

Animals: 81
Monsters: 35
Demons: 27
Plants: 4
Templates: 6
Total= 153 Beasts

Altogether an impressive bestiary! Plenty of creatures to create epic and fun adventures. I did include reptilian and crude humanoids as Monsters. Let me know what you think of the list and hopefully some will find it helpful in locating the different beasts to harass their PCs.

You might put a spoiler warning in the Subject of such topics. There are players reading this forum too, you know...

Good call - I made some changes. :)

Very cool. I only need another $233 and I will have all the available source material from the missing supplements/adventures.

If anyone wants (and has) the information from the missing supplements and/or adventures feel free to add them to this thread or just PM me and I will add them to the master list. 8)

so what? they will read some names, some names of books and some page numbers...woah...tricky tricky

there are 2 (!) scenarios mentioned in the list! and if your players are screaming "ahhhh....a demon lord is coming!" while you are reading in scroll of skelos you / they need a doctor.

but forget it....if you think this is so gm only sensitive.....so be it. what kind of players do you have in your group that you think they will a read a damn list to know which things they are facing? and why do you think a lousy "spoiler - gm only" will hold them back IF they are such a kind? or have you players that read 120 names "accidently" ? :) sorry....ridiculous.

but as i said...forget it and make it "top secret" :)

Thanks for a great list Strom. Usefull stuff...

Warning possible Shadizar spoiler

I noticed VARG and JATTE in the list citing Shadizar. Why are Swedish words used in that book??? Very strange indeed.

I've been reading it lately and i really can't understand why scandinavian words have wound up in Zamora either. According to Book I in boxed set they seem to be taken from Steve Perry's novel Conan the Formidalble which i haven't read.

Another interesting fact is that Jatte is used correctly denoting a kind of giant. "Jatte" in swedish meaning "giant" derived from Jotun in norse mythology. Varg however used on a small humanoid swamp dwelling people. But "varg" in swedish means "wolf".

Mr.Perry is either a bit confused about scandinavian language (which a large number of american fantasy writers are) or just doesn't care. He probably never expected his work to reach the cold shores of Vanaheim anyway.

I suspect also that bloddolk is Scandinavian (perhaps "blood-dagger", as in "bloody dagger"):

Bloddolk Forest, 38 [Road of Kings]

undoubtedly pastiche, too.
I really don't think REH knew any langs besides English (and Spanish??? since he lived in Texas)...
Just some thoughts. :)

Valaryc... man I don't even know how to dignify that with a response but here goes. You may have placed smiley faces here and there throughout your post, but your tone and intent was obvious.

Some people who might play in the adventures might not want to see what monsters lay within. What does it hurt to place a disclaimer saying so? Thats right... nothing. The original poster was not offended and agreed that he should place a disclaimer... why then, do you feel the need to stick yourself into the matter?

Who knows what type of players anyone has in their group... but it doesn't hurt a bit to include a spoiler alert.

Getting back to the thread subject for a moment...

In my Master Index (see "Conan RPG Indices" thread), all stat-blocks are labelled [stats]. If you use the search function in your favorite word-processor you can find them.
