Centuari Balvarix Carrier in 2ed?

Hi all! I know they are cutting out a lot of ships that sprung up during 1st Edition but was wondering if anyone has heard about the Balvarix Carrier for 2ed? Or any carier within the Centauri fleet that would have Carrier and Fleet Carrier special rules?

Thanks!

Curtis

the balvarix is a variant disappearing but the balvarin is being made better to replace in a way.
most carriers in 2e have had some sort of bonus to encourage people to use them more. or to use matts words: carriers are now sexy :D

Is this a general pattern, doing away with some or most of the varients of basic ship types?

Just put together a pair of G'Quans, converted into the two war priority varients. Hope I've not wasted my time with em.

It isn't a general pattern. There are a few variants that disappear, largely Centauri. The G'Quonth, G'Lan and G'Tal are still in the game. The G'Quonth is a monster of a ship.

Quick question: Is the Balvarin going to be a raid or battle PL ship. I only ask becasue I just recieved my order today (yippee!) and I am planning on doing some customizationon on a few of the ships. If the 2ed Balvarin is gointo be a Battle level ship, I wanted to add some more bulk to it as well.

Thanks!!

i love the g quans, any chance of a bit more info on that g quonth you just mentioned?
Suffice to say, it's actually worth a War PL choice now! (unlike in 1st ed where it's one of the worst War PL choices in the game). It's a little bit tougher but mainly, it simply has more firepower.

Glad to hear my G'Tal and G'Quonth conversions will be of use when 2e arrives!

I always thought that the G'Tal and G'Quonth were deliberately weak as war level ships. The idea being that they would be bought as G'Quan then converted up to the nastier ships in a campaign, with the right refit roll.

Nice to know that they will be serious ships in e2

Thats good to hear about the G'Quonth? and how about the G'Tal?? Is this getting the same loving treatment?? so as to make it a viable ship to take???

Yes. It isn't the monster that the G'Quonth is, but it certainly a viable command ship for the Narn.

Cool :D

Also what exactly is going to be happening with carriers? I know that we see them battling out but surely a carrier would sit a long way off from battle, perhaps even stay in hyperspace, release fighters and then wait for them to return. Are they going to get any kind of special support rules at all??? After all you don't really send carriers into the thick of a close quarters battle, that would defeat the object of them, i.e striking at distance whilst staying safe.

So when can we expect to see the 2nd ed? I understand that release dates can go awol and things need to properly balanced and checked, but I am sure we all eager to get our mits on it :)

Whatabout G'Quan itself?-) I hope it's not case of "variants good, base ship bad" :-)

If I would start Narn's I would want to have G'Quans as viable ships. They are THE Narn ships.

Also T'Loth. Boost the firepower! I still remember my first B5 war game where careless Primus got literally annihilated by T'Loth :-) Those plasma cannons are nasty.

Nope. It got the increase in laser firepower that was one of the universally cried-out for changes in 2e. As well as a couple of other tweaks.

The Narn were apparently the race that Mongoose got the most emails about, so there is some quite significant boosts to firepower.

It is what it was, only more so. That plasma cannon is less annoying... for the firer.

Wow. This thread is turning into a Q&A about specific ships with me giving vague reasurances.

I appreciate that you are excited about 2e (I am!) and I don't mind answering questions. But I don't like to give out to many specifics. So please continue to ask, but be aware I'm not going to give away too much.

There is no hard and fast rule. Some get more fighters. Some get more guns to make them worthwhile taking. Some drop a PL. And so on.

There is no gigantic change in the carrier rules, they are just better than they were. So for example, it should be now worth spending a war-point to get a Poseidon.

So when can we expect to see the 2nd ed?

Well the official release date is 27th August. Matt has said there will be copies at the open day on the 4th, and folks who preordered will get them early.

Does the new Balvarin have Carrier x and Fleet carrier?

Thanks!
