Captain Scarlet rpg?

I was thinking that MGP could do a Traveller setting book for the Gerry Anderson series' - mainly Captain Scarlet and possibly Stingray (I think they were set at about the same time). The only trouble is I'm just not sure there would be a big market for it after ITV effectively torpedoed the new CGI series'.

I think it could make a good setting - Captain Scarlet was a fairly grim TV show - multiple deaths in every episode, even major characters being wounded on a regular basis, superior implacable alien menace. You've got a similiar world to ours, with more advanced technology, space travel - there were even hints that interstellar ships were being developed.

If there was enough of a market for it, I think a Captain Scarlet rpg would be an excellent Traveller book - I'd buy it!

I think they were all set around the same sort of time, so you could include bits from all of them! I didn't mention Joe 90, Thunderbirds, Supercar or Fireball XL5 because I thought the roleplaying potential in those might be a bit narrow?

I like this idea. It would take me back to my childhood, although some people don't believe I've left it yet. And if you are wondering, I can remember watching Supercar and Fireball XL5.

A weapon like the edged missile fired by anti-triffid guns could prove lethal in combat against string marionette heroes.

I believe that flaw was spotted and dealt with. They're CGI now!

I wonder if a unified Supermarionation setting could be done? Some of the series were connected - Gordon Tracy (Thunderbirds) was a former member of WASP (Stingray), while the Zero-X ship which took the mission to Mars that led to the Mysteron war (Captain Scarlet) first appeared in the film "Thunderbirds are GO".

As a RPG setting, "Thunderbirds" could work if players don't mind specific pre-generated characters - possibly good for conventions. "Captain Scarlet" neatly gets round what for me is one of the difficult parts of character generation, which is inventing the name, as you just need to get a paint catalogue. :)

I'd sooner see either a UFO or Stingray RPG - both have potential.

CS is too restricted, I feel, to be a true RPG - too few agents to be truly free.

Thunderbirds, likewise - every character is already defined.

That having been said, a unified RPG with sourcebooks for the Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet organisations would allow groups to run those groups if they wanted, but also to feature both groups as NPCs... imagine a scenario where a passenger ship is attacked by an unknown sub - A Stingray class could be sent to investigate while International Rescue is evacuating or making safe the ship... :)

And I'm sure that you could combine UFO and CS too...

Really easy to do this. Many years ago I did a mini-system for my own amusement called F.A.B.! Idea was that it would appeal to young 'uns and be easy to run. Off the top of my head it went something like this: I only used a few characteristics Brains, Speed and Toughness or somesuch. The list of skills was small and general Shoot, Fight, Science, Pilot, Drive, Notice and a few others. Characters just got a 1-3 rating in each (0 - Rubbish/Clueless, 1 - Knows a bit/Not bad, 2 - Very good, 3 - Wow!). Add together the skill and characteristic that matter for the action and try to roll equal to or under on 1 x 6 sided dice (But only in pressurised challenging situations otherwise just assume the character can do the job if they have the skill)!

There was an open ended option (Fumble if you roll and then fail a second roll too and special effect if you 5 or less than your target). Roll modifiers must have been something like +1 Hard, +2 Extremely hard, +3 Incredibly hard and the inverse for easier tasks. A simplified version of a fast easy gaming system I wrote for my group (Still works a treat!). Just build the setting round it and off you go. Never got round to completing the system or trying to pitch it. Unfortunately I've no idea where I put the original notes but it was meant to be extremely simple and fast. With some nice Anderson related piccies and simple settings/linear scenarios in a kid friendly format book I figured it would be a great cheap way in for the yoot of today. Easy to flesh out on your own and print off if desired.

The setting was to combine Scarlet (My personal fave), Thunderbirds and any others that seemed reasonably compatible (Stingray I guess. UFO and the other live action stuff rather clashed with the Scarlet background).

Sounds like a great idea. I would love to be able to run Space 1999 adventures as well. Anyone care to see an Eagle transporter statted out for Traveller?

Recently picked up a copy of the golden era of starship which has a lot of deck plans one of which based on a Modular cutter looked remarkably like an Eagle Transporter, will double check tonight and see if I can get the details corrected so you know what I'm talking about!

Oh and yes would love to see one statted out, is it too later to ask about a Space 2199 rpg?
