Book of Traps

The Warlord

Mongoose
After reading the thread about scholars and tricked out lairs, I'm looking for a good trap resource. I recall there were some in the early 80's, but can't place the names.

Anyway, ya'll know of any good trap sourcebooks?

I think that the ones you may have heard about were: "Grimtooth's Traps" by Flying Buffalo Inc, 1981: ISBN 0-940244-75-6 and "Grimtooth's Traps Too" by BLADE, a division of Fying Buffalo Inc., 1982.

The listed address on the inside covers is: Flying Buffalo Inc., P.O. Box 1467, Scottsdale, Arizona 85252 U.S.A. I'm not sure if they're still around now.

They make 'interesting' reading, but need to be carefully vetted to lower the blatant deadliness factor - some of them do go to silly extremes, and others are quite fiendish .... Maybe you might find them in a second-hand games section of your local gaming store or the on-line merchants.

...I've been RPG'ing for quite some time now ... That's why the long-awaited Conan RPG has been a 'pleasant thrill'. I was actually and ironically thinking of doing a home-made Conan game using a D6 based System - but I guess that I was beaten to the mark ...

Happy Trapping.

In fact, Necromancer Games ( http://www.necromancergames.com ) is releasing a revised 3.5 edition of Grimtooth!

There's a preview of the upcoming book here:

Okay. Got mine here in front of me now.

There are 101 (102 technically) traps in the book. The traps are rated from 1 to 5 skulls on how deadly they are.

Roughly 15-20 of them would be appropriate for a Conan game. These are the ones that are simple and clever, relying on mundane laws of physics and chemistry rather than magic or extremely complicated workings.

Hope that helps.

Another couple of great resources for traps are Traps and Treachery and Traps and Treachery II by Fantasy Flight Games. Nothing in there (with exception to magical traps) that won't work in Conan.
Hey, thanks for the link and info, and to thulsa as well for the necromancer links. Just from the previews, I like the look of the Traps and Treachery releases more for a Conan type of game, personally speaking.

Yeah, the first book is chock full of good stuff. Specially in relation to a DND game. Lots of good stuff you can cull from it for Conan too. The 2nd book is mainly just traps.

Just wanted to let you all know, that from now UNTIL June 1st (2005), Fantasy Flight Games has a big sale on their books, for $5 (see link, click on Fantasy Flight Games). Our group's Scholar player alerted me, wanted to share in case anyone's interested.

Thanks, Bregales!

I picked up the first Traps and Treachery off ebay. Good stuff.
I'll definitely be grabbing book II.

Edit: Actually, quite a few of those books look very useful for Conan. Anyone have any experience with Dungeoncraft, Cityworks or Path of the Sword?

Sounds like you have some good info Warlord but here's one more: The Knights of the Dinner Table magazine features a new trap every month! Plus it is a great gaming resource and the funniest gaming mag on the rack. Also, the traps are reader submitted so if your feeling creative send one in. 8)

IMHO every book in the Legends and Lairs series from FFG has SOMETHING good in it for Conan.

I have every book except for Path of Shadow and Path of Faith.
