Yep, the Hinds going to be around for a long, long time. A South African firm offers upgrades to it, which updates the weapons and electronics.

i realy wish to run a few cobra AH-1 on the table top, i know every body harps on about the gun ships, but this thing has been going like 30 years and is still great.

About 1987, I was on Redstone/NASA in Huntsville AL.

Driving through and through the woods breaks a Hind, I was a bit surprised, followed it around until it went into the firing ranges, where I could not go.

Heard later it was a gift from somecountry that captured it.

Just when I think I've figured you out Mr Evil, you manage to confound me, heh. While everyone here is singing the praises of the Hind (and rightfully so) you skip right over that and say how you love the Cobra  . I just love this forum! As for me, I'll take the "Flying Tank" :D.

The Hind is my absolute favourite chopper, it's beautiful beyond comparison *drools*

which of them do you mean Buships, the Hind or the T-80 8)

hehehehe

well people forget how effective the cobra has been and still is.

and it will cost less points to feild a squadron of them :)

The Hind is so ugly, it gives it it's own draw. That would be a cool model. Are they upgrading these for the future, or are they fading into the past?

Iirc way, waaay back when the Hind was first known about, analysts called it a "flying tank" due to the armor. That should clear up any confusion, heh.

say what you want about the Hind, but when you look at it, it oozes authority like no other heli out there, save maybe the heaviest transports. if a cobra can be likened to a wasp, then a Hind is a very pissed off hornet
have some hind dance

Yup, it gets a bit confusing with that nickname, being given to 2 different vehicles in the same armed force:)
(*note* While the M1 Abrams has a 1,500 hp (1,120 kW) gas turbine as well, the T-80 is almost half the size and weight; its consequent maneuverability sees it referred to as the "flying tank")

the strutmovik (excuse spelling) was also in WW2 refered to as the flying tank :) damn russians.

The Il-2 Shturmovik was a great tank, er plane! On the German side I liked the Henschel Hs 129 with the B-3 being a real flying tank armed with a 75mm gun (but I digress)...

Didn;t they use a Hind as an ambulance on Firefly?

Anyway, I reckon the Hind would be an African Warlords unit, wouldn;t really fit the current factions well.

*If* theres a russian faction coming, i'd like to believe they're still using the Krokodil, although it'll be the mi-24P (N) with Havoc rotors etc, there are *Plenty* of HINDs in service today and they're cheap (A new Mi-24PN costs less than half as much as the AH-64) Rugged, easily maintained(relatively)
And it can drop BOMBS!!!!!!!

Did i mention i'm in love with this bird ;)
