Battle report - I beat Itkovian today. The dice really turned against Itkovian after he had to reboot. He conceeded when all he had left was a crippled Whitestar, a Parked WS and 3 Blue stars against my 2 urikhals, 3 Warbirds, Hurr Gunship and my crippled Vaarl.

Dave

Oi!

I had one viable whitestar left! :D

But was comprehensively tonked!

Fun game though
Pak'Ma'Ra are down on my list of scary fleets

well finals are:

davesaint versus romu

believe they have it organised for next sunday 1300GMT (0800EST, 0500PST)

Yeah never seen that many crits before :)
Shouldn't do many of them in the final i guess, used them for 3 months or so :D

Still sorry about that Chris

Working with Voodoo Witchdoctor to curse Romu's RNG on Vassal.......

Sorry Davesaint, i've already sacrificied a whole truck of chicken to ensure plenty of luck to him for the final.

And i'm ready to go to an entirely different level if necessary.

wait until they have shields ;)
although I now have a Jucaya i want to take out for a test drive.

Waiting for it, but i'm not overly convinced by the idea. Ok it can block a beam compare to interceptors, but they do come back at full the next round. Shields take a while to be at full strength again.

Well i guess you guys playtested them and i should just shut up but it's just a feeling :D

well todays the day, LONAW (mainly Pak but with a vree scout) versus abbai.

and as today is final day the sportsman ship award goes to triggy who got 3 votes.
from group 2 Romu and Humbaba both got 2 votes as operative didnt vote but there was less people in group 2 anyway - 4 people voted against the 6 in group 1 so maybe it was biased towards that group.

due to mistakes and mixups a rematch is needed. Romu i know is on hols for next 2 weeks but if you guys can get it done on or around 2nd september that would be great.

Hi everyone! I would like to apologize for the rules mix-up in my game with Romu. I interpreted a rule incorrectly which my have had a significant impact upon the results of the game. It was not intentional, but it was incorrect. I am willing to re-match him at his convience.

I am sorry I wasn't able to stick around and discuss this after the game, however I had to run to a funeral. The funeral was at 1pm and our game finished at 12:15pm my time. Needless to say, my spouse was not too thrilled with me.

Dave

If the rematch is anywhere as bloody as the first game, I´ll make sure to watch it - you two guys had some fine action going on there; the first Bimith blowing up in the first shooting round after a volley of plasma torpedos (including a 21 damage crit), but both Lakaras as well as the Hurr gunship just refused to die, no matter what was thrown at them!

Oh, and watching Romu deal out all those No-SA crits was pretty interesting (did he ever do a weapons crit at all?)

The game went fine, was a pretty funny game too.

About the rule thing, started a boarding party around turn 3 or 4 and dave told me when i tried firing at that ship that i couldn't fire cos i had troops on board. Which obviously turned out to be false as the others pointed out.

That would have changed the game a lot as i might have captured that gunship (which had 4 crew left at the end) and i might have saved my other lakara.

And btw I noticed the urik only have 32 crew in the s&p about the pakmara not 42 as on vassal and burger's shipviewer, dunno if that changed.

I see, that could be quite a big difference in outcome.

Yeah, the pak'ma'ra stats have had a few issues (as they're a newer and less played fleet) that's why I never rely on the Vassal stats as my initial source of information - it's good but until I've checked a stat against a rulebook I don't rely on it.

Good Catch Romu.....I hadn't noticed that either. I have been reporting errors in ships as I noticed them, but I did not notice that one. There was an issue with the Warbird that I found, that I know has been corrected.

In going back through the rules, errata, FAQ, and rulemasters CZuchlag did notice one thing about firing on a boarded ship. If the crew is killed out by fire, you do not get the bonus VP due to capture.

Another thing I don't particularly like about the boarding rules is you can't counterboard(thus sending over your own boarding parties) a ship unless it is at speed zero. Thus if you have a no special actions critical on the ship, you can never send over boarding parties to assist in retaking the ship unless your fleet happens to have breaching pods. This makes the inherent lack of troops on the Pak ships a huge disadvantage, especially in 2nd Edition where you can lose troops to critial effects.

With the new critical chart in 2nd edition, ships like the Ikorta, which has precise weapons and lots of troops, are going to be brutally effective in eliminating a lot of big warships. Especially since ships don't need to be speed 0 in second edition in order to be boarded. They only need to fit the following: Either be speed 0, Running Adrift, or have moved less than 1/2 their movement.

BTW, If I was a marine participating in a boarding action on an enemy vessel and the captian of one the ships in my fleet started to fire on the vessel I was on, I might want to shoot that captian in the head if I lived.

Just another question relating to 2nd Ed. If the target ship takes a Troops Critical in which you have your own troops on, Do your troops die too?

Adrift is quite difficult to achieve (more so than speed 0 in 1e). Speed 0 is only really possible on speed 4 ships (of which there are about 2). Of course crippled ships are now fair game. If you do All Stop! while there is an Ikorta, T'loth or Secondus around, you are asking for trouble.

No.
