Refought this using VaS last week.
British convoy of 20 or so merchant ships protected by 6 destroyers in centre of table.
On turn 1, the Hipper + 3 destroyers enter from SW corner.
On each subsequent turn, roll 1d6 at start of turn - if it is less than the turn number, the Scheer + 3 destroyers enters from the SE corner of the table.
From turn 3 onwards, roll 2d6 - if less than the turn number, Sheffield, Southampton and two Triabl class destroyers enter fromt he N edge.
A good battle which swung around a bit.
Eventually the Hipper and 5 German destroyers were sunk - ths Scheer and 1 destroyer escaped.
The British lost 3 destroyers, 2 more crippled, plus the Sheffield crippled.
We played the rules as per the rule book, since this was our first game.
Is it just me, or do critical hits occur very seldom? I think we had to roll for them about 5 times total in the whole game.
Next game, we'll probably use DMs modification, in pareticular the ones on torpedoes, since torpedoes seemed surprisingly ineffective.
