BABYLON 5 SCRIPTS

You'd like to know that, wouldn't you?

No seriously, I'm mostly a lurker and sometimes writer on the forums of JMS' news website (http://www.jmsnews.com/).

Concerning the next books, I have to say that a lot of people on that forum seem to be put off (to say it mildly) by the choice of content.
I _does_ look like JMS is "maximising his earnings from B5 fans" (the word ripoff comes to mind) as all of the material that will be in those books is already freely available on several websites (JMSNews, the Lurkers Guide to B5 and others) and easier to search than anything the book format can present.

Personally, I don't yet know if I will let my fanboyhood/geekiness (thanks LBH) get the upper hand and buy them just for the sake of "having them all" or if I'll just wait for the Crusade books to come out and leave it at that.

You think they should put this info out on the B5 scripts mailing list though wouldn't you?

And I'm with you on these new books with their rehashed content, seems like a rip off to me. I may buy one and jusdge on that, never really having visited jmsnews

I have bought printed collectiopns of web stuff before (Kevin Smith) but again, hadn't read those on the web before buying the book.

We'll see.

I consider myself a B5 fanboy as well, but I must admit, I am NOT going to get books of JMS quotes from on-line.

I already subscribe to most of those outlets anyway, so I won't be getting any new stuff. Many of his early posts were hints and niggles about upcoming plot points in the series, so having the complete series sort of kills the need to have the posts anymore.

For example, I remember an early discussion of B5 Telepaths on RAST.B5 and someone calling Joe on the Telepaths being very important to the arc, since telepathy is NOT hard SciFi. Joe hemmed and hawed a lot hinting that the poster was correct but not really telling us anything. WHO CARES now how that all went down?

Reading Joe's two page description of what happened that he changed from Sinclair to Sheridan. Read it (a couple of times) and don't need to see it again.

Unless someone can convince me that there is a lot more here than what I have guessed at above, I will not be getting this series of books.

That's just me though. YMMV

You don't happen to have a link to that do you?

Well, here's the surprise:

Birthing of Babylon 5

In 1999, J. Michael Straczynski allowed his original notes on Babylon 5 to be released via his Last Word column in the Babylon 5 Magazine (Vol. 2, Issue 9). These notes were the first written record of Babylon 5, made moments after he had his inspiration for the series while taking a shower.

Though the magazine is long gone, on this, the 10th anniversary of this column's publication, he wanted to share the origins of Babylon 5 again. While many fans saw them when they were originally published, he realizes that many more have not.

In addition to the notes, there is a brief introduction that formed part of that column.

Cheers,

Just ordered the TV movies book. Now I'm waiting for the Crusade scripts to be released.

Well, you'll have to wait a bit, as about 7 (5+2) other books will be released prior to the Crusade scripts.

We are all waiting for an announcement about those new books.

Yeah, the rehash of old stuff really wasn't worth holding my breath for.

We'll see what the new books will offer.

Let's all keep each other posted via this thread.

The new series "Asked & Answered" debuts today, a 5 part collection.

I think I'll get the first one and actually read it before deciding on the others. Iusually just archhived the script books and only dug them out when needed.

I've bought all the script books so far but not sure about this next set. Since most of it seems to come from online sources I think most fans will know most of this stuff already.

If anyone does buy this one, I'd like to hear if its worth getting or not.

I don't, I always preferred pub discussions of the show at uni to online discussions.

I'll let you know what I think of it when I get it.

I liked the first volume, fills some gaps in my knowledge as I had no internet during the show's early production run.

For anyone who is interested the release schedule for the other 4 parts is as follows:

Part 2: July 16
Part 3: August 12
Part 4: September 16
Part 5: October 14
