So.... I got around to sitting down and constructing potential army lists to build and now I'm here to ask advice of people who have spent more time playing the game (Well, ANY time would be more then me, but still!) for their opinions... I've got three army lists. One Exos, one Marauders and one Caps. PL 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Anyway. I'd like you people's opinions on which one you think would be the best to collect as a start, and more importantly: Why do you think that army would be better to begin with? Any advice about how the armies are actually assembled would be neat too.

I'll probably someday wind up making all three forces, but I'd like your opinions on which to go for first (No I haven't compared prices, and I'm not terribly worried about the cost currently.)

yup, the best way to play is build a flexible cap trooper force, learn how to handle them, then add the specialist stuff.
E.g. you can have exosuit NCOs and marauders in a cap force.... so you can build it gently. Also the cheapest flexible army available.

Yer, my first Force after playing Bugs all this time!

Go for Cap troopers.
You can give your lieutenants and ncos exosuits or marauder suits, and your Cap squads can have maraduers in place of special weapons.

Interesting to hear so many people like Cap Troopers (I mostly designed that force around things which looked cool, and which seemed like they'd be effective). Lots and lots of mobility for the primary forces, plus some heavy weaponry backup for when I need to kill off those pesky Tankers. I was originally thinking I'd go for the Exosuits to begin with, mostly cus I like the way they look and I'm a huge fan of the book.

Why take only marauders when you can take a much more flexible cap trooper platoon plus marauders?

Cus Cap Platoons lack M8B Bigfoots, of course! Really, though, if you're throwing marauders into cap squads it's probably not wise unless you want them for the extra heavy weapons or to put your Sgt/Cpl in to make them harder to kill. Since they cost a lot, and they slow the whole squad down. Very nice on a one-or-two basis, but really not worth it large scale. A 5-man Cap Squad with 3 Troopers, 2 Marauders and a Cpl costs you 560 points. A Marauder squad with 3 Marauders and a Cpl costs you 600 points. Comparatively the Marauders have 12 hits to 11 hits, plus all their units are Target 7+ kill 10+ and 3+ saving throws... There are decidedly reasons to field a fully Marauder force. Just gotta watch out for those Thorny Tankers and Plasma Bugs. And Rupture. But all of those are things which eat normal MI just as easily.

Probably the best way to play MI is a combination force... A squad of 1 Bigfoot and 2 Apes, NCO in Chickenhawk. Put together with a 1000 point Cap Platoon at PL2. But I like themed armies, and as far as places to start I prefer 'pure' armies before I try messing with multiple army lists.

Wow... Exosuits are now tied with Cap Troopers... But not a single reply about the Exosuits other then the votes on the poll... Interesting.

I say all of the above but don't forget the pathfinders while you are at it.

Exo's are sweet but don't get them as a stand alone army. For your first army get Cap troopers with a Marauder or 2 and maybe a LT in a grizzly if you want to be fancy.

It'd seem kinda silly to put a Lt in a Grizzly... But if you threw True Grit on him he'd be 6+/9+ and 2+ save... Maybe take it a step further and go for Dirty Fighting on him just for good measure. Fast Mover. Hmm... And something else for 30 points just to use up his full 100 point allotment. That'd make for a fairly solid Lt. You could potentially give him a pair of Firestorms, since he's got the Fast Mover and Dirty Fighting, he can always run away from the enemy if they start getting too 'friendly'.
