Anybody up for Vassal games in weekend?

Mongoose
Since I got idea of attending Q-Con tournament I would need to paint a fleet for it. Now before starting the project I would try out couple of fleet variations(3 different races and couple of lists) in relatively quick succession.

So anybody up for number of 1 point armageddon games in Vassal starting friday? Europe or America, doesn't really matter since I can stay awake pretty much as long as required(though would prefer if we could start atleast around midnight english time :D).

Obviously all games don't have to be against same person so multiple opponents are good as well :D

No preferences on opposing fleets either. Just take what you would concider taking to 1 point armageddon tournament.

If you are interested just tell me when you can be online(remember from friday onward. On friday I have last exam so can't play before that), preferably in English time so that I won't mess it up by being in wrong time there :D

Soory, bit of a NooB question, but is this aCtA online????

Confirm. Vassal is program that allows wide variety of games to be played online, ACTA included. It doesn't do all that much automation but instead gives you sort of a virtual board to play in with counters. You still need to know the rules and dice rolls goes like this:

Me: 4AD lasers, 2+ to hit
dice-generator: 1, 1, 2, 4
Me: 2 hits, 2 at 3+(though often these comments gets left out since both knows what it needs and can see hits themselves)
dice generator: 1, 5

etc. Ie you need to declare what you are rolling as well. Vassal just provides ability to roll virtual dices.

If you want to try it let me know and I can give you introduction game on weekend as well. As first step go to here:

And get the vassal and latest vassal mod from links in the thread. If you don't have java already instal it as well.

We can play smallish game to let you learn how it works.

Oh and Triggy: That would be excelent!

I may be able to manage a few games, too - providing I dont get too swept up in a gate camp on eve or something.

While it is unfortunate that I'm GMT-6 hours (Central Time US), I'm available this weekend once or twice as well.

Well as I said I can stay awake pretty much most of the night so if friday-saturday-sunday evenings are fine for you(well MAYBE not friday night since I have 11AM game booked up...) I can be awake late enough that it shouldn't be problem.

I can afterall just sleep late .

So don't let time difference stop you. If you have free time for game then just figure what's british time at that time and notify me. Unless it causes trouble with other games I don't care.

Much better to stay at "inconvinient" hours late now and find out exactly what I need to paint for tournament than try to transport hordes of painted ACTA ships from England to Finland

(actually I probably attach the bases on the tournament rather than trying to get them through air flight in one piece...)

Yep, that's 11am British Summer Time for our game :)

Anyone else is welcome to come and watch and poke fun at the cruel dice gods!

Dice gods are nowhere near as cruel as poker gods!

*grumble grumbe. Losing to backdoor straight with 3 aces. Grumble grumble* Atleast it was freeroll tournament

B5 bad beats have absolutely nothing on poker bad beats.

If it's OK, I'd like to book 11 AM Sunday, which should be 5PM GMT. Any problem with that timing, tneva82?

Assuming GMT is same as British time no problems whatsoever.

I think both Central USA and the UK are on their respective Summer Daylight Savings Times...

You are correct Triggy. I might be interested in a game Saturday Morning at about 6:30am CDT which would be about 12:30 pm Brittish Summer time. PM me if you are interested.

We could actually probably use a thread or site where you can book availability for Vassal -- sort of like tee times for A Call to Arms on the Internet.

I don't have nearly the skills to make it happen though.

Would love to see a dedicated Vassal Acta site, unfortunately i don't have a clue about how to do it :)

Hmmm...What sort of features it should have?

If it's nothing overly complicated I might be able to hack something together. Give me some idea of how it should work and I'll see what I can do.

Edit: Just sort of information like when you go into page what you expect to see, what sort of information you would like it to store, what functionality you would like to have...Have few ideas myself but much better if you folks help me design it :D I'm hardly a good designer...

Uhhuh. Seems like my network started to bug again(typical. Just as holiday begins...). Http seems to be unstable(reading these forums is pain for example) and can't seem to connect to vassal...

So don't wonder if I'm not online. We could try direct connection instead.

Bloody internet provider...
