Antiama-Class Fleet Carrier and Heavy Fighters

Yeah, the artificial 100 ton limit for hardpoints is a big bugbear of mine (or some other goblinese creature hiding under the bed). I'm fine with the limit for jump drives, but for a one ton socket turret... makes no sense, especially since missiles can still be launched to distant off the same platform. I'm sure its all arranged to make dogfights a thing, even though they really shouldn't be, except maybe in orbital space, but if it made sense weapons range would be based on sensors, not ship volume. Add one ton from 99 to 100 and suddenly you can go from a single 10km range turret (and some firm points) to a triple turret and fire out to very long range with a PA or long range pulse laser...

And yes, I'd build 10 ton platforms with a power plant, minimal maneuver, decent sensors*, and a triple turret (might need to go to 15 tons for a barbette) and spit them out as laser or particle accelerator mines... cover the world starlink-style, except pointing up.

*except you can give them basic sensors and it changes very little... see first paragraph
Those sound awesome! Even though the official rules say no, I might do that anyway for mines and fighters. Maybe they'll adjust the rules again someday. Sadly, it will probably be in a way that nerfs the battle riders I created to give capital ships the hives.

I was able to put together a 15-ton orbital mine with a triple missile turret (ignoring the rule) and crappy sensors. MCr16.55. My intent is to make a master controller with awesome sensors to hand off the sensor capability to the mines in its brood. To get more powerful weapons than missiles or lasers, it would need to be 20 tons, but is still very doable. I could even make ones with small bays. I like that thought a lot. The bay version had to be 52 tons.

The master controller is 50 tons (I could have shaved three off but like round numbers) and has sensors and arrays out the wazoo. Cost: MCr112.2.

You could put a lot of missiles at attackers from those platforms. I extended the endurance to 52 weeks (had to unlock that part of the spreadsheet to do it) and so they only need service once a year.

No idea why I did that, other than not anticipating anyone trying to last a year without a refuel.
Fixed and will be in the next update.

I think the money is worth it. I’m out and about now, but was able to fit a small bay in. 125 ton hull. Not enough room for a full crew, so only a pilot and gunner, but I’m thinking of making the small bay modular and swap it out for different roles.
I actually use those 400-ton gunboats as the heavy fighters IMTU.

It only makes sense since the rules nerf anything smaller than 100 tons. I haven't heard comments on the 125-ton Skeeter heavy fighter, so it might suit the role for me. With the modular small bay weapons, I can swap them out as needed for different roles.

I can also fit 3,000 of them on a Warmonger. ;)
