Battle report - mostly a mixture of stupidity and bad luck for me in three of the games.
1: League of Non-Aligned Worlds vs. Da Boss' Centauri. The bad luck was one of my Warbirds trying to fly through an asteroid field, needing a 3+ and rolling a 2. The stupidity was forgetting my Xorrs' guns could outrange a Primus' ion cannons, meaning they didn't really need to get shot up.
2: Shadows vs. Star Lynx's Vree. The stupidity was letting one of my Scouts get caught in the open while the other two dashed from one piece of scenery to another. The bad luck was getting spotted by both Xixxs and torpedoed to near oblivion. A second Scout got destroyed, so most of the game was a valiant last stand by the last Scout, which at least got some revenge by finishing off one of the Xixxs.
3: Shadows vs. Burger's Psi Corps. The stupidity was not getting my ships into the group of dust clouds where I could have played hide and seek. The bad luck was one of the Hunters getting a better than average beam strike on my Young Ship, pinning it and knocking out its self-repair in round 1. The Scouts put up a fight anyway, one was destroyed and the other made another valiant last stand.
4: Army of Light vs. Axolos' Brakiri. The brivari which I'd drunk at lunch time finally kicked in and I started playing competently. The Sharlin's stealth didn't do any good because Axolos' main strength was two Takatas which spammed energy mines. These did next to nothing to my G'Tal but brought the Sharlin and one of the Olympuses to within a couple of points of crippled. Going the other way, the Sharlin blew up a Halik, then hit a Takata. So did the G'Tal, getting an awesome beam strike - take note, those of you who routinely mock the G'Quan and its variants!
All in all, a lot of fun even if most of the games didn't go as well as I'd hoped, and it was good to meet people again. It was also good to get another dose of the excellent chilli and rice.
