ActA at Gaelcon, thread the third

Possibly pending exactly what prize support we get - however there's a seperate painting competition at the con so I wouldn't really want to step on their toes.

Lorcan,
Are there any more details on the ACTA special event at this point? I'll be there, but won't have time to enter the tournament so I'll be going for this instead.

From the flyer it looks like the Line. Are you planning on just running the straight SFOS scenario for folks or having some gigantic scaled up version with multiple players on each side?

It will be a Battle of the Line-ish game. Me with lots of Minbari, Lorcan with lots of targets, erm, EA :)

We're still sorting out actual numbers, but probably lots of ships to attract peoples interest, and give people the chance to try the system out.

Of course, if other people wanted to play and threw in more Minbari / suitable era EA, I doubt we'd mind.

(The above is all subject to Lorcan).

It's going to be a big Earth-minbari war scenario. Originally we were going to do The Line, but I had neither the time nor money to get enough minis to do it properly, so we're going to do a smaller (but still huge) battle.

Story wise, I was thinking of doing it as a delaying action at the Transfer point near Io.

exactly!! Only way the Minbari are guaranteed a sure win is to have 27 War choices per skirmish ship on the EA side

And also, if you don't want to go that route, read the fine very carefully. It might just be possible to pay it with... Postage Stamps.
Stamps have the queens head on and are therefore considered legal currency.

Actually IIRC, in the UK, stamps are onnly legal currency up to the value of 50p. Other coinage has limits as well, but they are rarely enforced.

The only cash that is legal tender in unlimited amounts and therefore must be accepted by retailers, etc. is.....

The bank of England £1 note, and they don't make those any more

Nope. £1 postage stamps can also be used.
I've actually seen this work. At least, it did last year, so unless the law has been changed since then

Maybe the rules are a little different in NI, my recollections are of English law. In Scotland we have 3 banks printing money, one of them still makes £1 notes.

Vaguely back on topic, HH and I playtested out Earth-Minbari war scenario tonight under SFOS rules, and despite him bringing one Lesath/Tigara too many, it came out quite well and balanced - a phyrric draw for both sides, aided by some amazing crit rolls on both our parts.

Next week we should have Armageddeon, and we try it again!

It would have been nice if I'd gotten those insane crit rolls (about 7 from 9 or 10 hits) on ships that actually mattered, rather than ... a Hermes and Saggitarius, wasn't it?

Just a minor point - How do we pay to play the game?

Having looked at the website, there is a pre-booking pack (says B5 can't be pre-booked), but how do we pay? I really don't want to be sending Euro's through the post, there is no credit card facility. Can we just pay on the day? :?

You can send a cheque in sterling - e-mail one of the organisers for the conversion rates they are using.
