Its not much of a gauntlet, as the ISA have their own better solution already on board -- the complimentary Nial fighter of doom.

Any braid mechanism will either have to loop on itself (and therefore be restricted by the length of the firing arc or will have such an exposed tai (a chain):

6-Braid:
...>.....>....>... #<-Target
...^.....<....<

chain
....>....>....> #<- Target
....>....>....>

You have a valid chain above. However, with the Raid level available to you, you also have more fireable systems to commit vs. flights (and the extra 2" of range is very important, too. Drakh have to give up their primary fire to take a shot at these fighters. The ISA, even in a 2-braid (what I was talking about in the prooflike section before), have 15" of range with a worthwhile weapon. Chains spend potential firepower for positional defense. Raiders cannot justify their value this way -- they are light on firepower as it is.

EDIT: Your ASCII art sure beats mine! Bad.?...shyeah, right.

Well Drakh have twice as many ships since theirs are Skirmish, WS are Raid.

I'm not saying its foolproof and makes you invincible... I'm saying its a good formation which reduces your vulnerability to fighters.

Well yeah it's good for protecting against fighters (I have used something similar with Shadow Scouts) but the fighters are achieving their objective anyway by forcing you to fly defensively you probably get less opportunity to use your weapons offensively (i.e. move closer to the enemy).

I personally don't think it's a "good formation" anymore than raising your arms to protect your face and body when someone is punching you is a "good" fighting stance...it's about damage limitation. Sooner or later though you need to punch back or you're just going to get tired and those arms are going to drop...still, makes good sense to do so when you can.

Regarding Allies

I would like (in an ideal universe) for quite a few races to have a Ally ability - to allow some more variety without having to keep making new ship models : Especially good in campaigns

ie:

Most races could use Raiders as allies (or minons) except Vorlons, Minbari perhaps

Shadows could have minions from Drakh, Centauri, EA, Raiders

Drakh - Centauri
