27/03/10 New Sci-fi miniatures??

http://blog.mongoosepublishing.co.uk/index.php?blog=2&title=new_toys&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

"On top of that, a couple of new miniatures arrived. You won't see these for a while as they are super-top-secret. But they will be in much demand when they are unveiled, as they are something of a first among sci-fi miniatures."

While it's nice to hear that something is being done about miniatures, you certainly make it sound like that by the time I see these I'll be waay too old and busy for miniature games. :(

If people could see what these ones were, our office would be under siege!

Well, everyone does love smurfs. :)

I think there is a clue...

They are making a Steven Segal miniatures game. There are 15 different miniatures of the man himself displaying martial art poses. There is one of Tommy Lee Jones, and a special collectors edition of Erica Eleniak bursting out of a cake.

The piece de resistance is the 25mm scale USS Missouri, in pewter. Which you will need a mortgage to buy and will be delivered by chinook.

Of course I could be joking.

Steven Seagal has 15 different martial arts poses? Every film I've seen him in, he does the same one over and over!

A Chuck Norris wargame, now THAT would be great, although pretty unbalanced because whoever isn't playing Chuck would always lose.

Unless Ted Rogers is in it too, of course...

stevem would need exta clothes upgrades for colourful coats and ponytail of course.. and the getting bigger wast size..!!!

Maybe a " All action " hero game....

New PM entry 14/05/10!
I like these news!!!

Well even after some collaboration between Matt and me in the past he IS very tight lipped about these two new projects.
I really hope for the best. Mongoose mini games could only benefit from a boost in public opinion, to give JD away for free is definitely the right thing to increase confidence in the company. 8)

I was flamed countless times on other forums just for authoring for Mongoose. Not mentioned my A.D.Publishing work based on Bf:Evo - HERESY!
 Most of the time the same people later agree that the game is good...

Anyway - my personal hope for the two new games would be AvP (would make sense since Mongoose is part of Alliance), Stargate SG-1 (personal favourite) or Dune...
We'll see.

Kids are often cruel on the playground.

We'll see.

I'm still hoping for Star Wars, Hammers Slammers, or maybe even Starship Troopers. :)

But AvP would be cool as well.

Giving the rules out free and selling the minis is a cunning business model - I look forward to seeing how well it goes down!

I put in sporadic appearances at the local games club, the one that meets in the hallowed halls of Mongoose itself. If playtesting is occurring I will definitely try to get there more often :)

I think the free rules part will be a MAJOR help. There is a wee bit of bad blood out there about other Mongoose games, so this might draw back those who say "Never Again."

To me, the rules are 1 of 2 things that make or break a game. The second being whether I have to paint the figures that go with it. Good rules, no painting...that's a winning combination for me.

So I understand, though I've been out of minis games for a while... not only does a free online rulebook reduce the initial commitment/outlay of gamers and potential gamers, it can be bugfixed with ease

Snap. I was never much cop at painting and these days can't find the time anyway...

What about Larry Niven's Ringworld? If your troops run off the left-hand edge of the table, they appear on the right-hand one :D

On the non-licensed sf game... I know what I'd choose. I haven't seen a really compelling steampunk-styled miniatures game yet (and I have been looking)...
