20 point Centauri fleet list

My worthy opponent will be reading this with interest. I am just wondering if he will post his fleet choices and open up the discussion further.

We tend to go in for a little pre-match psycological warfare.

wow, I hope you guys are playing on a 6x8 table, otherwise your not going to have enough room to move anything.

20 War Points?!? Only in my wildest dreams would I have that many minis. 3rd age is fighter heavy, even more so than early or crusade. I wouldn't be surpised to see 200+ EA fighters on the board, and that not even really going super fighter heavy either.

At that level btw, I wouldn't be suprised to see that some of those Omegas are Pulse Omegas, prolly running around in 2 pack squadrons. Gives some spine to Nova squadrons.

A furthur use for Sentris and Raziks would be as support fighters for cap ships. Maximii are great, but theres only so many of them. Using sentris/raziks as suppport fighters/interceptors for outlying fleet elements leaves the maximmi to protect the heavy hitters.

Actually we have found that bigger games don't increase the time it takes to play them to any great extent. There are just too many targets and too much firepower. It will take most of the day but that's a whole day playing ACTA what's wrong with that?

I am toying with the idea of keeping the raziks in close to the maximus and beefing them up with AF, aything to cut down the numerical advantage the EA will have.

I am expecting somewhere between 170-200 fighters. I am not sure how many mine come to but I know it isn't anywhere close to that amount.

Or I dump all the fighters in one area along with the carriers, Liati and the escorts and go for area denial. It might work.

I'd concentrate on CAP and close defence for your fleet. You won't win the fighter war in the open, so fight it in close where you have your fleet's AF cover available to help.

Just keep your fighters on your ships' bases until the enemy close, then either move out and engage them on your terms or wait for the automatic dogfights when they attempt to fire on your ships. With your Maximi extending your AF range you should be reasonably well covered.

Do you know what the scenario will be as a 20 pt war plannetry bombardment would be incredibly funny.

On ship selection loads of primuses with demoses, or

10 adira.

20 War eh? ...wow...

I could come up with 20 War if I pooled all my fleets. Right now I can barely make 5 War with Minbari, Shadows, and Vorlons and 5 Battle with EA 3rd, Centauri, Narn, and Vree.

Of course, if I had spent all on one fleet things might be different :-)

As for fleet selection...20 War lets you get away with a few things you might not be able to do in a smaller game (like field more Pulse Omegas as a previous poster mentioned). In a game like that I would be tempted to bring out a Secundus or two. Normally their range limitations keep me from using them. In your situation they might do quite well...also, the troops are begging to be used in a boarding action if you opponent moves too slowly.

In a game that big I wouldn't trust to stealth. Even though I'd love to field a Centauri-stealth fleet in a game this size I would stick to the more reliable hull/damage values of big ships.

Anywho, good luck!

EDIT: oops, wrote 10 war :-)

rhog likes his jump points and i think this fleet will work well at hurting anything that jumps too close especially with the fighters and breaching pods im going to have waiting for them.centauri are deadly at close quarters but not if there crew are all dead.

1 last thing what happens if a ships jump point deviates off the table ?

This thread is useless without pictures

In all seriousness, either of you two will have to take photos of this large scale war. Both lists look good, should be a game to remember.

I'll have to see if I can talk one of the Leeds club ACTA regulars into something like this now.

As it is going to be a full days worth of ACTA I feel sorry for who ever is on Tea duty.

Wow that's a lot of Omegas, I mean wow that really is a lot!

If a jump point scatters of the table I wouldsay tough, if the ship is on it's own in hyperspace it's not coming on, if there are other ships then one of them will have to open a jump gate for it.

You think I am jumpng into the middle of that lot? It's one thing for my Drakh or Minbari to jump in and create a second front, but bugger me sideways with a chain-saw that is a scary looking fleet, I'd rather not jump in that close at all thank you very much.

Why so any Avengers over the Poseidon?

wow...looks like an epic battle. can take a long time,or ?
i think after playing this out, your both don´t play ACTA for a long time

iv played 1 game bigger 33pts war and it took 5 hrs ,big yes slow no ,slowest part is the movement phase ,the trick is to squadron,im squadroning my 4 warlock together with heavy missiles to jump into the centauri rear at that close range even the adira will feel the hurt.(this could be true or it could be miss-information)

rhog why avengers over another posiedon, well while i can field another i look at it like this, posiedon 24 fighters,12 dropped before game ,avengers 32 fighters and 16 dropped before the game + i can space out the avengers to increase my fighter recovery chances across my board.plus 4 ships are better than 1.

c v ea-1

Those are some scary fleets. That's a lot of boresights to line up, but the enviroment is so target-rich you can't really miss. I tell you one thing, the EA 3rd age list doesn't scare me with my Centauri, but the Warlock sure does. I would not put an Octurion up against a Warlock and expect a win. That is a scary ship.

All I can offer by way of advise for the Centauri at this point, then, is concentrate fire on the scary Warlocks and Omegas a few at a time, kill them and move on. Those beams are your biggest danger, so remove them as soon as you can. Don't be afraid to use APTE to close the range and bring your precise beams to bear, and for the love of the Great Maker, watch his fighters! Raziks and Sentris on CAP, Maximi in close to your capital assets and use primary arms to kill them if there are no better targets. Kill the carriers as soon as you can, take away his fleet carrier trait. Going to be difficult with so many on the table, but do what you can.

This will be a tough battle. Good luck, and get us some photos!

LDtD thanks for the advice, I am planning to take plenty of pictures and I have a few nasty suprises of my own. Having been jumped from behind by mass warlocks before I don't relish facing it again. But now with ships coming through jump gates the turn they open, and normal jump gates not stopping firing if there is a scout on the table I can matcjh his warlocks with Octurians and Primus jumping in behind his own lines
