I am curious about how you all feel about the Demos. I know one playtester prefers the Vorchan, but I have yet to see one taken in prefernce to the Demos.

mmmm, dont really know how to vote on this one greg, all go down to playing style i supose, if you can get behind them they are dead, but that can take the influence away from the rest of your fleet, cunning tactic maybe?

it's a little batter than the Vorchan, drop it's interceptor and a couple of secondary dice and it would be more on a par then.

sorry hiff, im having a bit of a grin day, you said drop it, and batter, haha lol,
a battered demos and chips please, lol(sorry)

IMHO it is too much a clear choice - again at ECW did any one bring a Vorchan?

I would simply drop 2AD of the Ion cannons and leave it at that

keep the interceptor as its in the show............ :)

I've only ever seen the Demos in the table (unless Jim? had some at the weekend), and it was always CBD when the torps were reloading. And I can see why - in a game were Criticals are king, I'd take Precise SAP over DD SAP any day.

Regards,

Dave

The vorchan is a great ship the demos is alright, i take a mix of both.

The vorchan may not have the range but it is just way too good when it gets in with that super ap. t he amount of times that saves your but is not funny... and if you can et a jump portal to bring them in then your set even better cause they don't have to trek across the feild.

would go with this. or if having to keep the interceptor consider giving the vorchan an interceptor whilst dropping the dmoes secondaries.

The Demos has 10AD ion cannons while the Vorchan has 8AD. Is there any reason for this that anyone knows of? The torpedoes are a straight swap for the plasma accelerator, so why up the dice on the ion cannon?

It has the keep the interceptor as they's clearly seen on screen, while the Vorchan is seen getting shot up by Starfuries so probably doesn't have any. Lowering the ion cannon dice to 8AD seems perfectly fair to me.

I used two Demos rather than two Vorchans at the weekend for two reasons: one, it's the newer ship and made more sense to use the latest model in the time frame we were working in, and two, the torpedoes have the extra range. I figured I'd be facing EA more than anything and they have all those missiles. I wanted to be able to reply to them early on with my own missiles. I didn't take it because it's a clear choice over the Vorchan, normally I'd use that for the plasma accelerator.

My vote is for a tweak to the ion cannons.

I honestly think the reasson it's got more weapons is to make up for the lack of punch from the pa's. The range is good, but the pa's do a lot moe damage... espically to high hull ships.

It's kinda like the Demos is a ranged skirmisher dealing with light elements, while the vorchan is a close in destroyer, designed for the heavys.

comes down to the age old debate of precise versus DD though. plus add in the fact the precise torps are longer ranged.

I usually take a mix, 8 of each. They serve a slightly different purpose and both have the inherrent weakness of only one weapon arc and not all that much damage. Yes they can dish out the damage but they have a glass jaw.

I don't favour one over the other, they never survive past turn 3, small yappy tipe dogs with a mean bite but easy to kick

So far I'm happy with fielding mixes of Vorchans and Demos. They do serve slightly different roles, and the Vorchan can get into the fight more seriously 2 turns on the trot which can sometimes make the difference. Dropping the 2AD on the Demos seems like the simplest and most reasonable change if one were to be made.

I personally find it a horrible ship. Combine it with CBD and its just too powerful.

That's true of any ship with a slow-loading primary. You can't always use CBD, anyway, you might need to do something else with that SA.

Special actions don't break ships.

As everyone else said, droping those two dice would help rein it in a bit. I've got no problem with the intercepters, aside from the fact that they were shown on the show. The demos is a newer ship, is kind of makes sence that its defencive tech is better than a vorchans.

I hope like hell that nothing gets done to the amount of damage either variant has. It would be like 1e, were it got chipped away, and then everyone cried.
