There is something about the written word that unleashes the not so gentle angels of our heart. Maybe, it’s nature of the written words relative permanency, the personal time, or even the mental effort, or that we hold our selves up to the standards of Shakespeare, Einstein, or Steven King, but I think it has to do with the simple failure to communicate. We all want to be understood, even liked for our substantive thoughts and opinions, no more so than on a message board where opinion is king. We want to convert everyone to our view, or be toughly convinced that our view is incorrect. Yes there is a lot of ego involved, maybe even mental illness, but that’s what it boils down to, we all want to be influential. One of my favorite lines from a Harry Potter book was something to the effect “that if you are going to wait around for universal popularity, you are going to have a very long wait.”
So, on that note, I suggest we all remember that this Traveller is a game, with arbitrary and even contrary rules, and with every game the goal is fun. It is not means of I.Q. justification and intellectual domination. Don’t take things personally; the people who agree with you are, generally, not the ones responding, only the ones with the strongest opinion against your point of view.
