Who Dares Wins - BF Evo Tournament - June 16th

I agree with the 2k tourney. I don't think *I* have enough for a larger army, 2k may be pushing it. Now SST, I can do 3500. :)

Nezeray

Well I only have about 1700-2800 of models, so I'll be looking for attrition losses and loaners on the day if need be, buying more as a last resort.

Any other EFTF players attending the tourney willing to help me out with loaners, I will reciprocate of course.

LBH

Scotish cheap scate, i can do 4k of every force.

EFTF can alwyas point up buy upgrading tanks and IFV's ;) that realy ups the anti.

but increases survivability 10 fold ;) well we find that any way in about 6 games its made the warrior near unkillable ;)

HEre's some more email questions and answers from Matt, note the slight change in answer to reacting when in cover to a Charge action.

The former.

Correct - only your main army list has to obey the restrictions.

No, you are correct - play the rules as written!

Looks like I'll be joining you as JAFO, and for a pint after hopefully.

Well then you have to wear a JAFO hat and then take it off when Old BEar is near, he has a no hats in the studio rule

I'm shocked that LBH has not been on to prove to the world he can play minis games but telling everyone of his second place in the tourney.

Only to be beaten by my first place

Well if anyone was going to beat me into second I'm glad it was you. It further cemented our position as the top 2 BF : Evo players in the world ... ever!

I feel an album coming on, first track.... We are the Champions!!!

Good tourney, great games all round, I even blew up the hotel Zaphir in game 1!

LBH
(Next time I will rmember I got a Stealthy upgrade for my Command Squad, pesky SAS snipers, actually, next time I'll take the Elite Training upgrade off the SAS and get +2 to Armour save instead, 2+ armour save in cover for CMD, that#d be nice)

All in all a good day out as all Mongoose One Day events seem to be and congrats to LBH for winning.

With regard to how the tournament played it was decided on the day that armour recovers to full health between games while infantry do not recover any casualties between games. Unfortunatley this gave a big advantage to the US and European forces while penalising the MEA who were already at a big disadvantage. Also the last minute change to the first scenario, the only one that favoured the MEA in any way. Predictably this lead to the three MEA players occupying the bottom three places. Once the next couple of Waves are released there should be a bit more balance, but for this weekend if you won games you got various unit improvements and after one scenario you could replace a lost unit which meant that ass the day wore on the MEA were further and further disadvantaged. As it stands the Europeans have the best all round force by far and I would be amazed if they were ever to not win a tournament as it stands at the moment.

With regard to the rules the only one I saw which I didn't like was the massive amount of ramming that went on as the way the rles are written at the momeThis to me is stupid as if one armoured vehicle rammed another they would both be screwed, but people were ramming two and three times a turn using extra command for the extra attack. It was more likebumper cars than modern tank battle.

I think subtracting the difference in size scores from the attack dice would help.... a Size 2 vehicle ramming a Size 4 tank would therefore be rolling xD10-2, making it a lot less attractive. Also a size 4 tank ramming a size 2 vehicle would roll xD10+2 making it easier to just drive over the top which is realistic.

I realise losing expensive armour to rams must be frustrating, but to under-funded MEA units waiting for their own, out-dated, armour to arrive it is a viable tactic.

Did you get a kicking?

From Alex? Yes, 17/3 in his favour. I withdrew to conserve my forces for the next game, he had an APSed Challenger and I had one Challenger left with no other AT capability, no point staying.

At first I thought "But I only came second!" but then I realise you were talking of our game. Thank you, you were a worthy opponent and had I not gotten your Tunguska so easily it might have gone differently for you.

Shame i couldnt have made it :(
seems odd that tanks restored in health yet units did not, relay a huge advantage for EFTF and USMC players as they win on atrition then. still early days in tournys i spose so still ironing a few things out like that.

Evil it favours anybody with lots of armour, including the PLA which you don't mention. Now I'll grant you that armour replenishment did put the MEA at a slight disadvantage since the force construction rules prevent them from taking as much Armour as the other factions. ISA were similarly disfavoured as regards crew replacements in the last ACTA tourney so I feel for you there.

EFTF/USMC/PLA players would only win on attrition if they took lots of tanks.

If you're going to fight the case for a 'pro MEA' imbalance you really should be more balanced about it, errrmmm I think I see a problem with that.

Good luck
