Wheres the Love for Trolls, Dragonewts, and Scorpion Men?

Rurik

Mongoose
Enough about Dwarves, Elves, Ducks and Broos. What about some of the other unique races from the golden days of Glorantha?

Trolls were probably the most detailed of the non human races, and I always found the troll lore and materials some of the best work done in RQ.

The Dragonewts were interesting too, and Scorpion Men are up there with Broos for Chaos scum.

I personally am very excited about the new RQ.

Mongoose seems to have respect for the existing Glorantha lore and RQ fan base. I expect most of the sales initially will be to the long starved existing fan base, and if it is to really take off it will be because these fans accept the new material and then turn on other gamers. They key RQ's success is acceptance by the fans that are out there, and that fan base really wants a product that will stick around. I hope Mongoose realizes this and does RQ right.

old bear who is in charge of minis says he is getting some troll mins to come out in support of the game so looks like trolls will be up their with the ducks

heeeeheee i still treasure my old citadel/trollkin forge trolls and figures, even found someone who makes generic scorpiontaurs, mine ended up with 4 tails and 6 arms, he is NOT nice to face........

Any mini support for gorps planned?

In the past I just had to hack up some phlem. Turned off a lot of players (and turned on a couple, but we won't go there...)

Seriously though, I was excited when I heard about the new RQ, and ecstatic when I realized there would be new miniatures.

It also sounds like the more unique races are being done first, such as broos, ducks, and trolls (Gloranthan trolls being very different than most fantasy trolls), which is a good move. It should be easy to find passable fantasy humans, but ducks...

Keep 'em coming!

Trolls and the variousTribes of Uz were a superbly detailed part of old Glorantha. Always fun to throw players inexperienced in Gloranthan ways into Trolltown...

Heeeeheee I once threw a D&D group into Prax for an adventure, they never did figure out why they kept getting attacked/robbed and offered outrageous sums of money for there steel armour and weapons. Also local magics wnet haywire around them, trolls attacked out of the rubble, that much Iron they were obviously high level heroes etc, the intelligent and non-immfalmable nature of trolls was a very nasty shock to them, one they never really recovered from.

Then they met RQ elves, heeeheee fled and were hunted by bison and rhino baabaas and vowed to never come back.

They would keep casting det alignment and such like to try and get a grip on who to trust or what was going on, they failed badly. But it was fun to see the settting really throw them so badly they tried to use AD&D2 mechanics to get them out of it, instead of Roleplaying there way out of it.

Yep. Uz rock... and eat rock, when necessary. Trollpak is a beautiful piece of writing - neatly justifies troll brutalism in cultural terms.. whereas most RPGs would be happy just to say 'they stink, they're violent, they're stupid, they have x hit points'..

The troll pantheon is great, too. Especially Argan Argar. I have a baboon Argan Argar worshipper who specialises in the trade of exotic grubs and eggs - trolls were much straighter to trade with than humans...

Baboons - a great race, with plenty of scope for outrageous fun.
Midget Slashers - wasn't it a 3D6 bite damage? Great fun as a player killer.
Newtlings, Apple Lane, Rainbow Mounds, Borderlands and who can forget the Giants Cradle?

It's all beginning to come flooding back now :D

Trolls where always my favorite. Evewn though it was over 25 years ago, one of my altime favorite charecters was a female Mistress troll I got to play in one game.

I hope the minis are reasonably varied, and not to expensive.

I remember the first game of (2nd Edition) RQ I ran for my old AD&D Group.

A single encounter later, in the Big Rubble (they were searching for a missing child that had wandered away from a passing caravan) with them caught between three Dark Trolls and a slightly miffed Minotaur - I was assaulted with cries of "wheres my arm gone" and "why don't we have more hit points" - they never got far enough to meet up with the Scorpion Man who actually had the child (and planned to eat him Lol).

Back on Topic, I am hoping that Mongoose give their usual passionate support to RQ (and in particular Glorantha, as its my favourite Fantasy World to Game and Gamesmaster in).

I look foreward to it all . . . .

And where 's the love for gorps and krarshtkids?

they should do nice minis as they do fun opponents.
