Where to buy fighter hex bases?

Mongoose
So the closure of the line has finally spurred me to purchase a Gaim fleet. My only problem remains the absolute masses of fighters. Does anyone know anyone who sells hex bases - perferably mongoose ones, but any of the same basic dimensions should make good counters.

Try your local ceramic tile store. I picked up some (the exact sizeas the mongoose stands) hex tiles on 12x12 sheets for a few bucks. Split them off the mesh backsheet and spray them black(cus they were raw ceramic on the sides) and mount your fighters. :)

I have converted to Litko 1 inch squares and mounting 3 fighters to a base. They are the same size as the counters, so you won't get in trouble in a tournament. Plus they look good.

I've gone for 3mm foamboard squares the same size as the counters for my new Centauri as I can't pick up round SST style bases here anymore. Foamboard is very cheap and available from most art shops. Might end up rebasing all my fighters that way, experimenting with using small panel pins to make stalks to fit the fighters on.

Raverrn, if you're in the UK then PM me your address. I've got about 40 or so Mongoose fighter bases you could have for free.

Square ones are better, you can get 4 into stem contact for ramming rather than just 3 ;)
Meh. Use triangles and you can get 6 in there ;)
There really ought to be a standard base shape/size for fighters or better yet a ruling as to how many fighters can base a ship. Game effect should NEVER be determined by how the piece is modeled.

Mongoose had a box of spare fighter bases they were selling off at the last tourney. I suggest you email msprange@mongoosepublishing.com and ask him if he can sort you out.

I don't suppose that offer is open for us residents if we payed for shiping?

How many do you want? I do not use the things, think that they are
a waste. Make a reasonable offer per base, figure shipping from
California, and I will send all that you want (or that I have).

Bye for now,

I made my own bases, and have based 5 fleets worth of flight. I've got 45 plastic and 7 metal mongoose bases sitting about the place. PM me if you are interested.

There's also Litko Basemaker - great for cheap quantity (esp for gaim!)

Amen. Allowing such a method promotes abuse for those inclined to do so.

Cheers, Gary

When this came up before I remember one of the Mongoose bunch (possibly Matt Sprange) saying that any alternate base types should really be much the same size as the hex ones (whatever shape you use) or the counters to prevent anyone having an unfair advantage. Believe it was a reply to a question from someone going to an official tournament.
