Cosmic Mongoose
On pg. 58 of my printing of the hardcover Mongoose Traveller, the Vargr doesn't look right. What would you guys say the problem is, if any?

Typical of tailless apes.. nary a thought about tails.![]()
You can see this in furry art as well: tails are just tacked onto the clothing without any hint of there being an opening in the fabric, nor are fashions redesigned for a species that has had a tail for it's entire existence.
Ah, the guy running away is supposed to be a Vargr?ShawnDriscoll said:On pg. 58 of my printing of the hardcover Mongoose Traveller, the Vargr doesn't look right. What would you guys say the problem is, if any?
I'd fully agree, that is if we must stick with the OTU mumbo-jumbo about talking/walking dogs. Adaptations such as short or no tail would probably be seen in a matter of generations if it was an impediment to the species. Also, why wouldn't the vargr start to dock their own tails?Reynard said:I'd say, after the initial uplift, vargr had plenty of time to evolve beyond their original design.
Reynard said:By the way, I am supposing the creators of Traveller weren't to up on human history and development. At the time the Ancients took various species from Earth at about 300,000 years ago modern humans or even neandertals would not exist for a couple hundred thousand years. H. erectus was dying out and H. heidelbergensis was in its heyday. That means modern man did a lot of evolving in that short period.
First off, both aslan and vargr are furred races. Clothing will rub and chaff causing all sorts of problems where the material rests and moves constantly. Unless the fur has thinned, clothing as insulation is redundant. If clothing is worn, it will be for other purposes such as modesty, fashion, weather protection and carry capacity. More likely, clothing will be very light material to ease contact and tails will encourage loose garments such as robes and tunics. Skirts should be the sensible replacement for pants. Pants would be for specialty functions with the tail carefully planned into the design.
