What is MJS up too?????

From firstones.com

Y'know, if there's anything more annoying than having to sit on good news, I can't think of what it might be. (Well, okay, being staked to an ant hill at high noon is a pretty obvious one, but you get the idea.)

The only things I can say right now about B5:TMoS is that now that all the correct agreements have been signed, sealed and delivered, the draft has gone in, met with great enthusiasm all around, notes have been received, and the next draft is in process and has to be delievered within two weeks so that certain other steps can be set into motion.

I still can't tell you what it *is* because that has to come from the proper people through the proper channels at the proper time...but I can tell you a few cases of what it *isn't*...it isn't a novel, or a short story, a comic, an animated series, a radio drama or a stage play. Beyond that, deponent sayeth not.

Except to say that it's pretty cool.

On a side-note...for those following the Suprme Power books...as good as the series has been to date, and selling in the top 15 pretty consistently, the next two issues, 8 and 9, the first of which goes on sale March 3rd, are going to put this book on the map in a big way. They're just stellar issues. If you haven't gotten into the book yet, now (or backtracking to issue 7, the start of the new arc) would be a good time to do so, because it's going to start kicking some serious ass.

I actually quite liked the Battlestar Galactica remake. I think it added depth to science fiction that we definitely don't see in Star Trek or other science fiction currently on TV. It's no Babylon 5, but I'll gladly watch it.

Battlestar Galactica has big shoes to fill..... Two class movies, and a pretty good series that actually reached a decent conclusion. (before shooting itself in both feet whilst playing the landmine stomp) :x

Yes I know there was apparently a third movie... but do you believe that there are 3 or 5 star wars movies....

Actually, Battlestar Galactica was never anything but a TV series in the US. They took a few of the episodes that ran on TV, combined them, and released them to the theaters in the UK. I have a friend from the UK at work who didn't find out about this until recently.

Now, what the heck is JMS up to anyway?

All I know is that I need my bib again. Can't stop drooling.

TMoS....

Talented Minbari on Station...Minbari version of 'Riverdance'?

Trilling Mammals of Space...Opera in space maybe?

or my favorite...

Teenage Mutants of Space?

OK, OK, I'm just as flummoxed as the next guy.

actualy Baraendur Battlestar Galactica was a movie first.. then a TV show.... because the pilot was actualy a Modified Galactica movie so technicly the Pilot and Original movie are the same thing but modified with two different endings.... then we get our 1 year of a show... then we never get 1980 <never exsisted> and now we got the <bad> minisieries wich has lead up to a new TV show.....

Then what show was it where they land on earth? Was that part of the 1 year of programming? I thought THAT was BG 1980. My dad has it recorded on an old VHS tape. I just can't find it to dig it out. But I know the show has them landing on an earth of modern (70's/80's) time. We only have 1-2 episode or it may have been a miniseries or the pilot I'm not sure. All I know is the Gallactica is orbiting earth (hiding behind the moon I think) & they are taking the fighters down to earth....

I think CARTMAG is referring to the fact that no one wants to acknowledge its existence, including the creators. Much like the second Mortal Kombat movie. I almost got kicked out of my local gaming store for even mentioning that one. :?

Define bad. And if it is so bad, why were the ratings so high on the second night Scifi aired it? And why has it been nominated for so many awards? I'll grant you that it's different, but bad? That would be strictly the opinion of you and a not so large minority.

the reason it got high raitings is that all of us Fans of the old show decided to watch it.. and hoping it would be semi-decent.and give it half a chance.. only to be disapointed with bad actng, bad writing and nominations for awwards realy dosent mean its good.. it just means someone in a Boardroom thinks it was good....

I was most annoyed by the effects shots. Why exactly did they have to have bad camera work there? It’s effects shots, why make them look bad on purpose? I just hope whoever’s bright idea that was gets sacked. Oh, and number six is made of suck. And they put her inside the scientist’s head? Thanks, but I’ve seen Farscape. I’d rather watch cheesy classic Battle Star rather than this new over the top robot hoes on parade version. Yet sadly I will probably catch an ep. every now and then when I’m board, much like Lexx.

Actually, if you take the number of people who still consider themselves fans of the original and think that they are the only ones watching, the mini wouldn't have gotten nearly the kind of ratings it had. Also, if the majority of people who watched didn't like it then there would have been lower ratings for the second part rather than higher ratings, not higher. Most people do not tune in for a second night of something they don't like. The only thing that explains the higher ratings for night #2 is that people who watched it liked what they saw and told others. The fact is that they were able to salvage some of fans of the original show and they were able to find a new audience. This was the third highest rated event in the Scifi channel's history, so it cannot be so easily dismissed.

As for awards, Saturn awards are nothing to scoff at. Here's what it's either won or been nominated for so far:

Feb. 20, 2004:
SCI FI Wire: Battlestar Galactica wins the Visual Effects Society's Melies Moon Man Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Television Miniseries, Movie or a Special.

Feb. 13, 2004:
SCI FI Wire: Battlestar Galactica earns two Saturn Award nominations, for Best Television Presentation and Best TV Supporting Actress (Katee Sackhoff). Awards to be announced May 5.

Moore has explained why it was done this way. The cinematography throughout the entire show was meant to be done documentary style rather than the style that you normally find in dramas like Star Trek. You'll find the same type of camera work on shows like NYPD Blue. Efforts were made to make the show as realistic looking as possible, with the intent to suspend disbelief more than your usual scifi show.

The end result was characters that were very human, a situation that was believable within the context of the universe in which it is set, and a storyline that will easily continue into series.

As for Baltar, I don't think he has a chip in his head. I think it's one of two things. Either he's gone nutty, which is my bet, or #6 used some technologically enhanced form of hypnosis to leave some of her programming in his head. To what end, I can't say, especially since he outed the cylon agent on the Galactica; a fact that further backs up the notion that he's really just nuts.
