What Have You Painted Today??

Adrianh - You mean to say you don't read every CTA post on this forum, terrible admission................

made a couple of forum mentions of my then pending June IWM order on the week I put it in, in the Dark Star thread and somewhere else I don't remember:D

Remember now you had raised the point some time ago but if I remembered at all at the time probably assumed that you had bit the bullet by then.

My CTA, IWM orders are coming to an end however I keep thinking up some new ideas for conversions so there possibly will be at least one more, maybe end of this month. I also, crazily, have ordered up a couple of the new "definitely not" BSG ships. Well my excuse was the order was going in anyway.

This flying object was sighted over Scotland on 30th August.

A low level reconnaissance flight identified it as a Xorr saucer.

One of my other hobbies is building and flying model rockets, and not all flying rockets are conventional rocket shaped. Flying saucers are a popular topic. So, with a bit of artistic licence to accommodate the motor mount, I had a bit of fun with a paper Vree saucer. It flew reasonably well, although having rather more drag than the usual rocket, it didn't go very far. Which meant I got it back easily and it can fly again. :)

Cool: .................. Need to scale up to a 1:1 next

BTW, even if it did not get very far, hopefullly it still managed to mutilate a few cows on the way.

Decided to get some Vorlons after all (well, it was my birthday. And no, I'm not telling you my age :) )

They only arrived on Thursday and I had them finished by Sunday night (would have been faster still if I hadn't been playing on Saturday), which must be a record for me. The base colour is Tamiya Yellow-Green with the speckle pattern done using Kickaha's toothbrush splatter method and GW black ink straight out of the bottle. I'm just leaving them gloss coated, not really canon but I think it suits their organic nature.

Another great looking fleet there Iain, but curses on you for producing such great results in so little time.

Nice to see that my splatter technique worked for you.

Very nice!

I thought I recognised the toothbrush-splatter technique over the yellow, but how did you get the pattern on the blue inside the "petals" of the transports?

Just did the splatter effect as with the rest of the ship and then used a cut down brush to dot larger irregular patches of black paint (originally altered that brush for WW2 German aircraft fusilage mottling, which is fairly similar in style).

Fine addition to the fleet Adrian H.

Working on one myself at the moment, in relation to another project, so thanks for reminding me to add a few arials, always a sound enhancement for an EA ship.

Well done.

They did need quite a bit of cleaning, but it was flash which had to be removed. :) I've also figured out why two of the bow turrets need short barrels - the entire bow section appears to be too short compared with pictures I've seen. There's no reason for the side turrets amidships to be short, though, so since there were enough long barrel turrets, I used two of them there.

That"s a nice looking nova dude.

My latest finished project wasn't a ship, I decided I didn't feel like paying GW $190 NZ, so I made my own copy of Space Hulk.

Sorry, I'm feeling too lazy to type the whole process out again, so here is a link to how I did it.

Ok, it's not as pretty as the new version. But it only cost around $60 NZ. So I'm not complaining.

Hopefully it doesn't become exhibit A in a lawsuit.

Much kudos to you my friend, some great ideas in there. Love the use of the poker chips.

Very well implemented indeed.

Cheers dude. I guess it's a prime example of implimenting your signature.

(As long as the GW narn bat squad doesn't get me. )

Thanks! It took a long time even with using a fine marker to draw the outlines of the black bits first. Which is why I'm using a G'Quan - singular, not plural. And I will never understand how anyone can have the patience to paint a whole Narn fleet like that. :)

But an AoL fleet without a G'Quan at its disposal is almost as unthinkable as an AoL fleet without a White Star. :D

Incidentally, I have the "Sky Full of Stars" counter sheet, which shows more colour schemes for Narn ships than the usual red/black/white or grey/blue. Some are green, of which some have brown markings; at least one is orange with brown markings; and the little Sho'Kos is light blue.

Know exactly what you mean, I gave up on my first Narn ship beceause I couldn't get close to painting straight enough lines. eventually went back and persevered. Tell you what tho, since edge highlighting and blending, (and the ocasional Drazi markings) all require painting thin straight lines so, best practice route for me was painting a narn fleet although I didn't realise it at the time:lol: .

Absolutely.

Love to see your results if you try this. Always meant to try some of the alternatives, never got around to it. having said that I think the Red Black White (I use dark brown tho) paint scheme is the most striking in SF.

Talking of Drazi... a pair of Sunhawks.

The engine bulbs were done basically using Iain McGhee's technique, i.e. a red permanent marker. Under that is a base coat of white, a coat of yellow fluorescent, then a thin coat of orange fluorescent. The cockpit windows are two white dots covered with yellow fluorescent, then tidied up by going back round the outside with light grey. I tried using ink to highlight the lines on the wings, but that overdid it, so I repainted the wings and went over the lines with a pencil.
