What did we say? The Retailer Dropped thread is gone.

Mongoose
Anyone know what sparked the removal of the "Dropped from online store until further notice" thread? I thought it was a good one, very enlightening. But maybe if Big Brother pulled it, it served its purpose.

Weren't the last few posts starting to tend towards the positive as well?

that they were. Same as when I got banned, had a long discussion with Matt on the boards, calmed down, had some positive posts, then someone else pulled the thread and banned me!
Mind you, there was also a posse of playtesters out for my head at that time!

As the author of the aforementioned thread I have to say that it did prompt a very prompt response from Alex who has swung into action and promised that he´d have the situation rectified and has plans afoot to ensure the smooth flow of the ships (both old & new) for the future.
So, Í´m not too bothered that its now down and feel that credit is due to Alex for responding so quickly from the States. if he can delivery what he´s promised we will be 1 very happy Game store, and I can think of 1 or 2 of our regulars who will have grins on their faces quite soon as well!

As a Mongoose employee who is on the forum a lot, it had turned into a spiral of bashing the company and naysaying about our future in the industry.

While I cannot say for sure that was the reason it was deleted, I can say that it was not positive at all and actually made me very upset when I read through it this morning.

we understand that bit Bry, but then as stated, it also had some positive points, and in fact has allegedly had a good outcome. You however as company employee have to put yourself in the shoes of Derina, who is waiting for centauri, plenty who are waiting for G'Vrahns, or gaim, or me, waiting 18 months for a mothership.
if you ordered something and didn't get it, you would be peeved too.
heck I work for UK government, if I got upset every time we got called names, I'd be a gibbering wreck ;-)

It's Mongoose's board, they can monitor what is said and delete as necessary. The thread lasted a while, it made its point, enough is enough. We now sit back and watch. Hopefully, the thread will spur Mongoose to action everywhere, not just in the UK. If not, well, actions speak louder than words. Either way, it served its purpose.

This is correct. As soon as we were made aware of the problem, steps were taken.

As a side point to this, I have also made a full investigation of the way miniatures are produced and distributed, and action has already been taken to not only enforce the turnaround deadlines, but beat them. It will take a couple of weeks to shake everything down, but you should see a real difference after that.

strange... my one and only post in a long time appears to have vanished into hyperspace. :|

On the positive side...
Glad the thread had a good outcome, and glad that it inspired steps t be taken to fix the problem! :)

Not so positively
Well certainly for myself I think it confirms my feelings about these forums. Anyone who says anything negative has the entire thread deleted, no matter what the original poster's subject or intent, and no matter what else has been said on the thread. The moderators really need some serious forum moderation lessons. Why not just delete the offending posts, leaving the content and useful informatin that was posted? I think the community as a whole would be interested in the fact that ID Gaming has temporarily stopped stocking ACTA products, and that Hobbybox apparently has some coming in soon. Why was this information also deleted?

Now of course I know that they are privately owned boards, Mongoose can do what they want, posting is a privilege not a right, and free speech or censorship laws do not apply. But this practice really makes the forums look like they are a place for sycophants rather than free-thinking individuals.

Wonder how long this thread will last...

I actually have a pretty thick skin for these sorts of things (you should have seen some of the things I had to shrug off when RuneQuest got up and running, sheesh!), it is part of the business for people not to like what you are doing. :)

That being said, when people are posting that problems that not everyone are seeing are the signs that we are failing as a company and that we deserve the kind of bashing we are getting on other industry forums, it gets under my skin some.

I've been with Mongoose now for going on three years full time, and I can roll with someone looking at my work and telling me they don't like it. But coming here and saying that we are ripping people off and are failing as a company...that stung more than the harshest critic.

I may not be very high on the Mongoose food chain, but I take a great deal of pride in working for the company where I do. I totally understand that people are upset (and I actually debated shipping you MY mothership after I read this thread, Hiff), and I'm sure Rob, Alex and Matt are getting things squared away as best they can. I know if I could help I would.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't be mad, quite the contrary. But perhaps a PM to Matt or Alex is better served than trying to stir up a pot to overboiling?

Cheers all,
Bry

Ha!

No sooner do I say that Matt and Alex have it handled does the big man himself come on and say so.

:)

See, that's why I'm glad to be one of the Mongeese.

While it´s true that some whinning was invoved (as usual), I thought that there were at least some legitimate concerns about how players/customers see things spin out of control/go down/run "unsmoothly" (ok, I admit that´s not a real word... )... I mean, things have gone wrong.

Still, the twist towards the positive towards the end was there, and I´m sure noone here thinks that you guys at Mongoose just lean back and watch everything go down the drain. I guess there´s just a fair amount of pent up frustration on both sides here (I´m sure the MGP team does let off some steam here and there, too!?).

Well, it´s one thing argueing over many, many pages in several threads over how effective shadow fighters really are (one fighter in nearly 20 fleets is the main problem? Sure speaks for the game if THIS of all things causes the main discussion on the board), but to hear people from both europe and the US that Mongoose stuff seems to be largely unavailable is discouraging, to say the least.

Well, we´ve been told that Mongoose is working on the problem, and in most cases this has been true so far. All good things take a while to work them all out, right?

patience...

I think you can find threads where this is most certainly not the case. We always carefully consider whether or not to delete the threads, and 90% of the time it is because someone is just being plain rude.

Honestly? Time. These forums can get extremely busy, and I cannot dedicate a staff member to police them - it may not be a full time job, but it would take a serious chunk out of someone's day. So, we do what we can, when we can.

The alternative is to adopt more draconian rules for the forum, and I can well appreciate why some other companies do it. The policy makes it very easy, efficient and fast.

However, at this time, I do not feel that is a step we want to take. We want people to feel free here but, at the same time, we reserve the right to kill threads that are rude, abusive, factually incorrect, or just plain wrong.

Agreed  I did say it is a minor (though deeply niggling) complaint of mine for a great game. re this thread - or the other dead one - if I get more / new models available I will be very happy :)

Have to say thank you to Matt and Alex, my restock which they have been sorting (and has enabled me to get things back up on the site) looks to be coming through nicely.

I also appreciate the issues of forum moderation and would say that it's better to delete an entire thread than just a few 'dodgy' posts. Leaving some in and some out makes the threads into a weird kind of unreadable Chinese whispers.

So, it seems like the concerns we have been voicing for several months are getting addressed.

Does this mean now that either of the two major game stores in my area can order Babylon 5 and have it arrive sometime in the week? As it stands right now, one store can get stuff in in 2-3 months and the other flat out cannot order: Poseidon, Hyperion, Orion, Explorer, Dag'Kar, Liati, Adira, Psi Corps Mothership, Hunter, leaving me with ordering another Marathon.

If things are going to change, that would be awesome beyond words.
