Mongoose Publishing has just launched a kickstarter project for a new board game, Dark Eon Assassin - Tyrant of Acheron.

You can find the details here;

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1990654819/dark-eon-assassin

Dark Eon Assassin is a solo science-fiction board game, where you play a highly trained operative engaged on a deadly mission to defeat the Tyrant of Acheron. During play, you will get equipped with a variety of lethal, high-tech devices and weapons to aid you in your task, then infiltrate the Tyrant's palace, avoid his defences and, hopefully, end his evil schemes. But it will not be easy...

We are using the highest quality components in this boardgame and have prepared an introductory video on the Kickstarter site that we hope will put you in the right mood for Dark Eon Assassin!

Matt, might want to put an update on the Kickstarter page with a link to download the playtest rules as they stand. Help the boardgamers know which mechanic we're using...

We have just uploaded some of the card and board artwork from Dark Eon Assassin on Kickstarter - you can find them in the Updates.

And we now have the draft rulebook for Dark Eon Assassin on line, so you can now see exactly how it plays. You can download a copy from;

I am not sure I completely understand this, is Dark Eon Assassin getting released? What is kickstarter, and why is there a donation listed? I am quite puzzled, mainly because I do not understand. If someone could elaborate I would appreciate it.

Kickstarter is a website that creative people & companies can use to fund their projects - movies, video games, comics, board games....

The pledges are essentially pre-orders. Or investment into the project, for a credit, a miniature a bunch of extra stuff or whatever.

Mongoose are asking for $20,000 worth of pledges, which they will use to fund production of the game.

I don't know what happens to Dark Eon if they don't raise the cash - they have already put in a whole bunch of design work.

Thanks for the information.

While I do not think it is not a bad idea, I am a little confused. I know there are delays, but this game was mentioned in an old S&P to be released something like last November, I could be misremembering, and now extra funding is needed for it, or the project could go south (I could be wrong). I'm not giving out, but it makes me worry about Mongoose, and the game too, which I hope gets released.

Kickstarter is a simple premise.

You pledge an amount of money at one of the levels available.

If enough money is pledged to reach the listed target funding, everyone who pledged an amount gets that amount charged from their credit card or whatever, and they get what they were offered in return for their pledge level.

If the total amount of pledges does not meet the funding target, noone gets charged anything and the project doesn't happen, unless it gets funded by some other means.

I did the Alien frontiers Factions Kickstarter, great game

I look at this and can't help thinking of Chainsaw Warrior from GW. Still got that somewhere, without the minis, unfortunately.

You might want to change the store entry here http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/boardgames/dark-eon-assassin.html. It's listed as pre-order for September 2011 release.

Popped out of stealth mode to say that I think you'd have a much better chance of reaching your goal if you out an entry up on board game geek for it - there's a geeklist for kickstarter games as well. it would raise the profile of your offering considerably. Any thought about having things like 'name in the rulebook' etc? They seem to go down well (I've kickstarted about 8 boardgames in total, so I've a little experience of the process).

Finally, like someone else said, this game seems very similar to Chainsaw warrior. Any comments on that? How about revealing a few more of the cards so we can see the interesting dynamics in how they play?

Just some thoughts,

EvilD
