WaW Scenario: Assault on the Siegfried line

Wargoat

Mongoose
Just finished tinkering with this little scenario. It's called Assault on the
Siegfried line and it will be bloody! I'm going to try it tomorrow with my
American friend! Feel free to try it and give me a word

What stats are you using for the M4(105)?

The stats from the S&P#62 was used when I designed the forces for this scenario. The stats from Tread Head may be used altough the Sherman
should use the HVSS to get the extra movement.

You should also use this variant I tought about. When a size 1 model is in medium cover, the model should add +1 Target, +1 Kill. When in heavy
cover, add +2 Target, +2 Kill. The target bonus is used instead of the save
bonus to size 1 models only. This should help balance the game for the
infantry. We tried this variant for a couple of games and we think it's just
making the game more fun!(for the infantry at least  )
Try it and let me know what you think about it.

Ahem, aren't these the official rules anyway? :?:
Check page 19 of the WaW rulebook.

Nope, the official rules are +1/+2 Armor Save, +1/+2 Kill Number. Now that air combat has been changed, the target score can never be altered during the course of play.

Check page 19 of the WaW rulebook.

Sgt Hulka was faster than me!

I decided to give a bonus to target instead of save to represent the difficulty of targeting somebody in cover. In most of the games we played, we've found that even a machine gunner in a pillbox(heavy cover) was too easily shot down by enemy fire(target4+).

I am even more confused now.
Where is this official rule? Are you taking about a S&P article?
Only thing official as far as I know is the WaW rulebook and the Playersguide.

Please enlighten me.

The official rules from page 19 of the World at War rulebook list the rules for cover. Light cover = +1 Armor Save and +1 Kill Number. Heavy cover = +2 Armor Save and +2 Kill Number. Obscurement = +1 Kill Number.

Page 5 of the Battlefield Evolution SRD v1.0 has the same chart with the same values.

Maybe it's my mention of air combat that has you confused? In the World at War rulebook page 30 has a chart that lists different Target numbers for different air speeds. But then the official FAQ/errata changed the Target numbers to Dodge Saves.

I agree the presentation is beautiful.

My only practical suggestion is to assign the halftracks to the American Engineers. That way they will automatically lose their "ambush" characteristic and you won't have to include that loss as a special rule.

Thanks guys, what a blunder from me!
I was doing 4 things at once and wasn't obviously not really paying attention to save or target and got mixed it all up very well indeed...
And to think that I even quoted the right pages and was not able to read them, oh my. Where is a stone to hide!

Sorry again for any confusion I may have caused.

The scenario is designed to give you the freedom of using the units the way you decide it. Don't forget that the US Combat engineers have a 5'' movement so you may decide to use the halftracks to carry your Rifle or Command squads.

Finally, we had some time yesterday evening to play the scenario. As you can see there is a lot of infantry models on the table. The American platoon was about 100 soldiers strong  We had a great time playing it and the issue of the battle was uncertain until the end. The german MG-42's managed to kill about 80 American soldiers!
In the end, my Panzer IV was unable to destroy the Sherman, the American Command squad plus an Engineer squad were able to climb the hill and assault the last German position. What a nice battle.
Enjoy the pics! :)

Not the type of German "big cat" I was expecting. :)

Thank you for all the pictures, it looks like it was a lot of fun. 100 GIs? Wow
