Viewing Battleship memorials using Google Earth

Loads of ships in Portsmouth Harbour. I believe the aircraft carrier is HMS Invincible?

You can see the Victory on there too.

It's the Ark Royal, Burger :) . katadder (on the first page) added that, but thanks for another look at the old Victory. The 'game' is to find new ships... (just kidding you a bit). Really though, thanks for the view. :D

It's the pirate ship at Chessington World Of Adventure ;)

OK, try this one then :)

carrier about to be laid up...

Bremerton, Washington. if you look at Drydock 6 (the biggest one) you'll see the blocks set up for a really big ship, I'm assuming a carrier...

There's a sub in one of the smaller drydocks. BTW, I miss having the Missouri at the far left berth :( .

for that you have to find someplace that has older photos, like terraserver. They're B&W, and not as detailed, but they're there. and, there's 2 Iowa class here, as well as come vintage carriers - midway and Oriskanay (sp?) just to name a few...

here

pan to the right a little and you'll see my old boat (the Nimitz) in that same drydock 6...this was when I served aboard her.

I haven't looked at that link (but I will after I write this). Yes, for years the New Jersey was just on the other side of the Oriskany iirc. I think on one visit they had moved the ships around a bit. One of these days I'll maybe get to go to Hawaii and see the Arizona nad say 'hi' to the Missouri. I won't be able to visit it, but I'll give the Utah a civilian's salute as well. :)

O-M-G-uns!!! Wow, what a find. Now that's what I call "Victory at Sea!". The wicked thing to remember is that the armor of that ship class was designed to acknowledge that guns of that size would be fired upon it.

I don't care if they are dinosaurs- I love battleships!

Oh, and I want you to find me the video of what was happening to the target ship, as that was titled as a "SINK-EX" exercise (Okinawa, 1989)... :!:

Thanks, Chern. To make the links work, I had to go to the navsource archives page and search for the jpg file. I don't know why the links didn't work, but the photos were interesting. one shows the target leaning over to port, maybe in sinking condition (?).

I'm going to have to do some searching now. Our gaming club is less than 1/2 a mile from the Massachusetts museum (I drive over it every time her highest point is visible at eye level as you cross the bridge). We also have a more recent model Russian sub in Providence harbor (It's the sub they refitted to use in 'K-19 Widowmaker') and the U.S.S. Saratoga in Newport Harbor.

Or not.... I guess the old satellites haven't been over Providence in a while, no sub, no carrier, and my house is the wrong color (it was painted almost 2 years ago)
