CTA Tournament @ Wargames Workshop, Milton Keynes 17th Feb

Maximus, Hull 6, Interceptors 1, 10AD twin-linked, perpetually on Close Blast Doors, dice of the damned!
Someone sold their soul to Satan!!!

I HATES them ALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

hehe,

was fun. I got got last place!!!!

but then i didnt actually become properly concious til game2! Darn early mornings and a late nite printing off all the couters!

Is being asleep in charge of a Drakh force a punishable offence?

But then Tank only wanted me there so he wouldnt be last place. he only beat me in the rankings by one so it was well worth me going!

Blah Blah Blah

My dice have been cursed by the presence of an untrained Monkey

Besides hull 6 is not the best thing for a Brakiri fleet to face

All told I enjoyed the day was fun seeing new folks and getting beaten by them (damn cursed dice and untrained monkey taints!)

What?! Tank's dice failed him finally and I wasn't there to witness it?!!! The rest of us must somehow be his good luck charm!

Still...he must have used ALL of his luck on his Falkosi from the sounds of it ;)

Anyone going to write up the tourney? Highlights maybe? How many people were there...who won?

And much more importantly...WHERE ARE THE PICS?!!! ;)

The winner was TGT with a sagi fleet.

A friend of mine described playing against a Sagi fleet akin to an unpleasant sexual experience with a rhinoceseros (putting it politely).

I had a lot of fun, despite getting pasted by Triggy's sagis. I had a closer game with Adam, which I still lost and I beat a Drakh player, versengeteriks, I think.

Played my Centari fleet in first touni

I Primus, Elutarian, Vorchar Scout and three MAXIMUS (best ships in the fleet)

played a friend on mine first round (randomly chosen) and got absolutely slaughtered without managing to kill either destroyer or the transport. Watched Greg next to me get hammered by Triggys Sag fleet - which were in danger of giving you snow blindness. Consoled myself that as least I would have an easy game next having joined Greg at the bootom of the table with 0 points.!

Nope played previously mentioned fleet of White Sagis and Hyperions. Very worried by this charged my maximus's in, guns blazing (chanting their name in an annoying way) whilst killing the odd ship with the Primus. And somehow won - which was nice. Helped that Triggy was a an excellent sport and good fun to play!

Next felling more relaxed was some strange green ships - apparently some minor alien race form the league or something (can you tell I was playing Centauri). A combination of the Maximus power (he did kill one with the entire fleet on second turn), Primus beam and of course the fact that his dice recongnised the Centauri's inate superority and would not roll more than 2, ever, at all! (Especially when you say " you can't possibily miss from that range")

Totally unfair on my opponent who played on despite having absolutely no luck of any kind and still helped me out when I forgot things and was again good fun to play!

good fun and I think I came 5th

though my mate came joint first - playing the Shadows!

I know that Triggy took a very non standard mix of missiles but I couldnt say what the loadouts actually were.

He had HARM missiles, heavy missiles, flash missiles.........if I recall correctly?

A missile for every occasion! Must get tedious though tracking them all, I mean 4 different missile types per ship, multiple (6 - 8?) ships, slow loading etc...arghh ah paper nightmare to track accurately! That's why I play Shadows though, one or two ships, simple ;)

I do think the lots of little ships thing in a tournament is annoying though but it's difficult to do anything against. I had a few ideas for the oturney in March but wanted a chance to playtest them first before acting it out for real!

One rule I'd quite liked was to put in a "highlander" (there can be only one) rule for a tournament but the problem is that it really doesn't work for most fleets...

Triggys was all full scale and white and bright - mine was FA scale - borrowed as some of my ships had to be sent back!

I was considering something very similar. Once my Maximi arrive from AoG... I can do this.

May I ask what you did with the Vorchar? Just used it as a regular scout? Any reason why you didn't take 2 Covrans? Just curious.

Hadn't really thought about it, figured be useful as another ship with guns / target if the scouting doesn't work out. I like all my ships to go in shooting - even the scouts. May well do it next time however................

Only really scouting for the Elutarian and the Primus anyway and in case of the nasty Minbari.

I had 2 x Tertius and a prefect (don't start!)

Game one- Vs Drahk (new boy-Hugh) lost initiative (after several reroll draws)

tertius either side of the prefect, dead centre of the board (same in all 3 games-see note for Game 3)

My oppo, deployed on one side of the board in a corner apart from his two scouts which were way out in front.

Lost turn one so moved a tertius first into range of the scout furthest from me. Scouts mobed etc so I turned all to target them and CAB SA (nothing else gonna be in range, CAB reduces turns to 1 min -law according to Tank) as the rest of his fleet moved fwd. I think he failed his first SS SA order.
No Drahk firing, missed my stealth roll with the first tertius...made up for that with the second and the prefect popping both with some nasty 2+ Beam nastiness.

Turn 2 same kind of slow CAB movement by me, targeting his ships that CAF me or Raiders that tried to turn my flank.
Damaged his light cruiser and a couple of raiders.

Turn 3 All raiders now on the board, some partially damaged rather than destroyed due to some consistantly good dodge rolls.
CAF'd Light cruisers vs CAB tertius ..thought it could be nasty...however neither were in their weapons range....we agreed he'd never make that mistake again..remember he's a newbie to the rules and fleet
Then oh dear a lucky weapons critical damage roll and all my fwd weapons on a tertius go down....game changer for sure!

Turn 4 All flanking raiders get splashed by some lucky beam shots
I take a few scrapes from a light cruiser. Bring my aft and side weapons into multi target goodness...start to heavily damaging the carrier.

Turn 5 Mopped up the carrier and a light cruiser with some rear shots from the fwd weapons down Tertius

result 25-0 Annihalation- for discussion CAB reduces turns to min 1 we checked this a few times and asked Tank
Drahk need the second carrier and should hug the baseline horizontally dropping raiders off as it goes. Scouts need to hang back
