Victory at Sea models?

Poi

Mongoose
Will Victory at Sea be supported by Mongoose toys, or will players have to get stuff from other manufacturers? If so, what scale are you aiming for?

Thinking about starting a German fleet. Hoping the rules will allow what if scenarios, as I've found a cool model of the Graf Zeppelin, Germany's aircraft carrier.

It has been said that Mongoose use Navwar IIRC. These are 1:3000. Plenty available at www.spiritgames.co.uk

Oh, yeah: HONK!

The Zep is in the game.....also has a nice pic of her.

Coolio.

What about the russian Project 71A carrier? Navwar do a model, would be cool to be able to use it (Could be the deciding factor in fleet choice for the game)

There are some very nice 1/2400 scale models out there. They have much better details than the 1/3000 ranges, but of course cost a little bit more and I don't think have as wide an offering.

GHQ is the most heard reccomendation for 1/2400 ships. Check out ALNAVCO as nice place to shop :D

I think VaS uses centre-to-centre measuring, so larger models would not be a problem.

EDIT: Any scale between 1:2000 and 1:6000

You can play all of the what if scenarios you want. The game excels at them. I was at the LGS today and came close to buying a German fleet myself. I'm using GHQ 1:1200 models.

IIRC wasn't there some talk about some Mongoose looking at 1:1200 or 1:1250? I'm looking forward to getting models for the Pacific theatre.

Eisho

^Yeah (they were considering 1:2000) but I'm pretty sure the PTB decided not to produce miniatures. Probably a good move since there's naval gamers that already have large fleets of ships. I wouldn't go out and buy new fleets in a different scale since I already have a pretty big collection.

I haven't paid much attention to Victory at Sea, but this thought has got me interested. Nothing like a bit of speculation....

btw: Quack! Oversized dirty snow-ball 'tis all it is.

Can somebody give me a few websites that have models I could use with VaS?

I've found some out there, but none of them have pictures of the models, so I can't tell how cool they are!

Or, if there's a site that doesn't have pictures, but has some cool models, maybe somebody could post some pics?

I would like to get two fleets together before the rules get here.

Where in the US can you get models?

I think the official scale is 1/3000

I'm already dreaming up using these rules in a 1/700 mega-scale game at our local con next year.

Can't wait until the rules are out!!

^I don't see why there wouldn't be one. Maybe they should start one right now. The Conan minis game has one.

Mr. Sprange? :)

If you go to the site www.seekrieg.com you should see a line of tabs. Click on the resources tab and the on then scroll down menu click minature suppliers. A list of websites selling ship in various scales will appear. Click on a link to go to whichever you desire.

Most don't have specific pictures of all the ships in their range. GHQ and Strange Cargo Games are notable exceptions though.

My recommendations as to ship models are Figurehead's line of 1/6000 scale. I like this scale as it gives a sense of the ranges involved in battleship combat and means the playing area can be kept to a reasonable size (sorry just my personal preference). I have both German and British WW1 Battlecruisers and U-boats and a Convoy + Escorts for WW2.
They come in packs of classes. So you get all the ships of a class in a single pack along with sea effect bases to mount them on and a small bit of paper with info on the ships (a nice touch I thought). Detail is excellent for the scale (lifeboats and individual 11inch guns are visibly cast). There is a small tag at the back of the base for identification purposes (though I tend to put this on the underside of the base using clear varnish).

Anyway I hope that the website helps you decide on the models you want to use for the game.

P.S a victory at sea forum would be good.
