Do items placed in large turrets also occupy spaces taken from the total available to the chassis? Or does a large turret only consume four spaces from the chassis total no matter what it has inside it?

It would be good to get an official clarification on this.

Secondly, can I mount things other than weapons in the turret? For example other space consuming items like sensors.

Weapons still occupy space, yes, regardless of the mount type. Otherwise you could have a 3-space gravsled with an orbital defense laser!

And only weapons can be mounted in a turret. But since turrets don't give you free space, your can always say the sensors are 'mounted' to the turret.
