USS Oriskany

Hey guys, hoping someone out there can help me out: a friend of mine at work is looking for a miniature of the USS Oriskany. He apparently has family connected to the ship. Now I can find unpainted versions of the class, but we're looking for a pre painted version. Any ideas?

If you ship us the model and a picture of how you want it to look, my wife could paint if for you. Wouldn't be cheap, but it would look great!

One of the German 1/1250 manufacturers probably does one that comes pre-painted. They seem to do just about every ship ever built! Navis or Neptun would be good places to start. Either that or contact Dreadnought Models in Gosport, UK. The owner, Dave Willcocks, has an amazing knowledge of what is available and, f there is one, he probably has one or knows where to get one.

Contact details for Dreadnought are here:

Thanks for the help guys! Painting it by hand is the last resort, I've offered to do it for him, but it would be easier to find something already done.

One point regarding the USS Oriskany is that it was launched too late to see WW2. Thus, it is probably post-war navy grey and 'easy' as far as painting the hull. Launched in October of 1945, completion was suspended until the Korean war. She was commissioned in September of 1950 to a revised design.

Here is a model with an early version angled deck (a British concept)

Lastly as a point of trivia and to add additional help on painting, the carrier was used in the movie "The Bridges at Toko-Ri"
