Undercity Terrain

I haven't posted anything here since Gangs had it's own board. Here's some recent stuff. I still haven't gotten around to painting my judges, though, so I mounted a Heroclix Dredd onto a base for photos.

And here you can see the tri-vid guy there with a couple of other media minis. I would love to see more media types but I doubt they would be that popular.

Fantastic scenery and I like your Tri-D presenter (who makes/made those?). I agree, more media-types and characters would be fun to paint and use in mini-games and the Dredd RPG.
What did you use to make the scenery? Is it scratch built?

The two non GoMC-1 figs are both from em-4 miniatures. In fact, I have an upcoming article in their e-zine about how to make these pieces.

They are indeed scratch built. The frame is from a toy called "Building Blasters" made by Kenner. It's a bunch of interlocking girders and makes a nice skeleton for the buildings.

The walls are made from old ZIP discs that I opened and cleaned out. The sides with holes get a piece of car repair mesh to cover the "window" and then the sides without a hole get some split peas for rivets and various bits to add character.

The floors are parts of the backside of a VHS tape, the doors for the floor are made from the circular disc on the underside of a computer mouse, and the ladders are from the Building Blasters set.

I'll post some more of my undercity stuff here. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Here's another piece.

The elevated floor is the front of an old beach radio, the walls are VHS tape and the walkway on top is a piece of a plastic harddrive case.

Cool thread! Keep it up.

A shot of the whole lot set up ready for a game would be cool if you can manage it.

If you are looking for more media types the same sculptor who made the EM4 news team also sculpted this set.

The Frothers forum released an armoured newsteam as part of a limited release after a sculpting competition a couple of years ago. I dont know if the sculpts were subsequently picked up for general manufacture or not (some of the figures from that years competition were) but you might be able to get your hands on them some way. I painted my Frothers team as shown below:

The whole setup isn't quite finished yet.

Those are great figures, too bad they are limited edition.

Here's something I just finished, how many years in the cubes do you think you would get for one of these?

Great! Keep posting the pics. I'm always inspired by seeing scenery or Mega City style miniatures. I'll post some pics when I get around to it - still painting my Chief Judge Caligula and so on.
I did buy some cheap wall sections from a WWII model shop (by Tamiya) I think 1:35 scale. They slot together and are easy to store. I painted them and even put grafiti on a few pieces. It looks pretty good, but I don't yet have enough to build more than one or two buildings.
(fyi I posted some pics of my JD minis in another post and the background is made of the wall sections mentioned above)
:D

I saw that thread, I thought the minis and the background looked quite nice.

Here's a little building made out of an outlet wiring box.

The roof is made from old cassette tape housing and some of the bits around the outside are the wheels and what not from the tape.

The smokestacks are plastic hair curlers and the corner bits are the caps from super glue tubes.

The shelf on the back is a piece of VHS tape, the rivets are split peas and the round grate is the speaker case from inside some old headphones.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. Really makes me want to post. I rarely share my terrain online.

How did you get the rust effect on the smooth plastic pieces?

It's sort of like a drybrush. I use an old, stiff brush and prepare it as I usually would for a drybrush, but I just increase the pressure, almost scribbling on the surface as though I was using a marker with little ink.

Then, in some cases, I take a smaller stiff brush and stipple the surface in some places where rust might accumulate more than the rest of the surface.
