Trolls and darksense.

According to this thread: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/WorldofGlorantha/message/2663 darksense isn't sonar, as stated in the Uz book.

Instead it's something a lot wierder, carried by Darkness (the element) much as human sight is carried by Light (the element).

Could lead to some interesting twists for evil-minded GMs to use against those pesky players ... oops, I mean for nice GMs to use to make their games more exotic.

Yeah, this is a really good idea, and fits Glorantha so well. It's just a shame Chris didn't think of it six months ago before Aaron wrote the Trolls book :D

I don't think this idea negates the Uz book.
As I said on the above thread, the Uz book is written from two Human (and extremely biased) points of view.
There's nothing to say that the (supposed) authors didn't allow their own prejudices to color their writing.
For example, the cults section of the Uz book is very derogatory towards Troll gods. Couldn't there be just as much disdain for actual Troll physiology, especially as the EWF and the God Learners despise/fear Darkness?

Good point. That's one plus side of writing from a biased view. If anyone objects to the content written, you can always blame it on the God Learner or EWF who "wrote" it.

One step at a time.

RQM trolls had "Darksight".

RQM Gloranthan trolls have Darksense/Sonar.

The next clarification could have Darksense propogating through darkness.

Now, if only we could get rid off the Mistress Maul.

This mechanic would also make shades more valuble to Uz.

Anyone engulfed within a shade has their senses deprived – the senses of touch and hearing are benumbed (–75% to Perception skill tests based on those senses), sight is impossible and the freezing air even muffles the sense of smell (–50% to Perception skill tests based on smell). A shade blocks not just normal eyesight, but also such Traits as Earth Sense, Life Sense and Night Sight. This is an automatic effect of a shade and cannot be turned off.

It appears darksence would be the only type of perception that could penatrate this type of barrier. Bound shades would be extremely useful to enlo.
