We've started doing one of our weekly sessions every month on Owlbear Rodeo and it works a treat for us as it's basically just the same as being in person. We use the dice tool, and everything else is just maps and images. Super-lightweight and extremely easy to improvise.
I'd tried Foundry, Roll20 and FGU, and I've watched a bunch of streams of Traveller campaigns on Youtube. One thing I had experienced and which is noticeable in the streams is that as soon as a fight is about to start, everything slows right down.. We've not experienced that so far, this way.
The other thing I've noticed is that the interface designs for most of these tools are remarkably amateurish. I suppose it reflects the lack of money in the space, which is a niche of a niche, and I imagine that there are generally very small teams involved and no budget for dedicated UX resources or designers.
